Before I pick up from where we left off last episode, I have to tell y'all a true story that happened. If you remember I talked about little Tanner and how he had that teacher and he called he said he wanted to be called coach Coach. Well, Coach Coach was involved in something with me this week, and I want you to know that it went like buttah. If I was a first responder, I first responded like a champion, but I just had a kid pass out in class. He wasn't hydrated, but I screamed, I need a teacher because he fell on my chest and I caught him. His head never hit the ground, and I'm like shaken because he's a heavy kid and I'm laying him to the ground and I screamed, help, I need a teacher, help, and nobody heard me. And then out of the corner of my eye, slow motion, here comes Coach Coach, the one that Tanner loves so much, running through the hall, and he came and he gave me some assistance. So shout out to Coach Coach Coach. I get while you liked him because he's a good fellow and pretty couel story and it made me think of Tanner, honestly.

4:09 So all right, where we left off last episode was that Tanner and Summer and Billy were murdered in their home in less than nine minutes by the very guy that they had invited in to try to give him some help when he was down on his luck. His name was to go to Tario, and I know that it was heartbreaking to kind of hear that story of what he did to those people. I mean, just horrible. And then to find out through the nine one one call that it wasn't just that he murdered those three people, but there were two children, little children inside of that trailer. Whenever those murders went down, that witnessed it. That's almost too much from my heart to take. There was seven year old Heaven and there was one year old Christopher, and he shot Billy, their daddy while they were there in the room. And you're like, well, Kelly, how would you know that they were there? Because later on this episode, I'm gonna let you hear Dakota in his own in his own words, tell you what he did in the minutes that he did it, and you're gonna hear that he mentions those babies in his explanation. So that nine when one call came in to Livingston Parish Sheriff's office, they immediately dispatch officers over there.

5:20 That's where they find the decedents and they start their investigation there. Now at the time that that occurred, something else had actually happened at the same about the same time, because remember there's a delay from the time that a crime occurs. You know, someone's got to report it or you know, someone has to give some type of information to law enforcement so they can they can even respond to it. So a little bit of time had actually had lapsed between when he murdered uh these three and police got on scene. So that was roughly around eight thirty when that nine when one call to came into Livingston Parish Sheriff's office and police got on scene him were starting to investigate this triple homicide. Well, wouldn't you know at eight forty two ailm. So this is just what fifteen twenty minutes later, another nine one one call comes in, but in a different parish. It's actually an adjoining parish of ours, Ascension Parish, and Ascension Parish Sheriff's office receives another nine one one call.

6:25 Now, when this call comes in, they are able to determine the operators are able to determine that the man on the line is named Keith Terrio. Well, that Terrio sounds kind of kind of familiar, don't Dakota Terrio? Keith Terrio, Yeah, it's because it's Dakota's dad. Now, why is Keith Terrio calling into nine one one? Well, it was actually kind of hard for them to figure it out. At first because it was very muffled when he was speaking to them, was like, and I know that sounds kind of silly, but that's kind of what it sounded like. It was very hard to understand what he was saying, and what they were able to determine by phone was that he had been shot. Okay, Dakota's father had been shot, and where had he been shot in the face, specifically the mouth. Okay. So deputies were dispatched to the scene, and there was a sergeant Callaway who recounted, you know, kind of what happened once the patrol units got there, and that he actually ran in to try to assist mister Keith Terryo when he got into the house. Matter of fact, let me back of a second. This is something that's not on the record, but I know this because I know one of the dispatchers that was part of this case, and she told me that they were actually having a really hard time finding where Keith Terrio was. So if you watch the movies, okay, you think that you call nine one one and nine one one knows exactly

7:56 where you are, and they're gonna say woo woo woo. Right, they're gonna send people straight to you. Yeah, that's not how it works. Okay, I wish that's how it worked, but it's not. You know, if you call from a landline, this might be some good information for you just for the safety of your you know, home, to know this. If you call from a landline, then what pops up is kind of the like the billing address to the home. So you call from one, two, three four lollipop lane, that's going to pop up in the system at nine one one, And so even if you can't speak, they would be able to direct themselves to where you are. But if you call from a cell phone, that becomes a lot more difficult. And what they were trying to do because they couldn't understand where he was coming in where he was calling from, was they were having to do what we call like triangulation methods where there's like three points and they think you're between those three points, but they've got to just kind of figure it out. Well, when when your victim is calling you from inside a home and you can only get within like three football fields of where they might be, can you imagine how difficult that would be. But this is where you give kudos to law enforcement because they were able to get there within minutes and find him. And from what I understand, the way they were able to find him was because the deputy was alert and noticed that the front door of this trailer where they were living was open, and he believed that to be the home where they were and he was right, and so he made it on scene. Like, what are the chances of that? I think that that's just incredible and I think it deserves more attention and kudos to the essential parents Sheriff's office for working so hard

9:28 to figure out where he was to try to save his life. Now, when they got into the home and they laid their eyes on Keith Terrrio, guess what else they noticed? There was another body next to Keith Terrio. Guests who was lying next to him also shot Dakota's mom. So in the last thirty five minutes, Billy Ernest has been murdered, Tanner Ernest has been murdered, Summer Ernest has been murdered. And now we have two people in Ascension Parish, one with a bullet hole in the mouth and the other one a bullet hole kind of in the forehead. But they're not dead yet.

10:09 Amazingly, incredibly, they're not dead. So they start trying to figure out what's going on here. So deputy his name was Garrett Keith, and another deputy, Nicky Anderson, they were there trying to figure out what's going on. Medical attention got there and they were asking questions of you know what happened, and whenever they were asking him, it says that I'm assuming this is referring to Deputy Keith because it says he he asked Keith who shot him, and Keith replied, my son. He said it to the police. They did not guess this. He said my son through his mouth that was blown open with a gunshot. And that's whenever Callaway asked Keith who his son was, and Keith replied Dakota. So he was alert enough to be able to answer those question. But in the nine one one call, he was struggling.

11:01 He was struggling so hard they couldn't understand him. But they did think that he was saying I'm dying. That's what they thought he was saying, was I'm dying. And I can't imagine the fear that Keith must have felt after he said my son, and they said which son? They said he said Dakota, all right. Now, after that happened, they said that Keith didn't speak anymore, but he was still following them with his eyes, so he was still somewhat alert, but he just wasn't able to speak anymore. So. Deputy Keith also mentioned that upon arrival at the scene, he gave details regarding the dying declaration of Keith Terryo, and in that conversation, Deputy Keith asked Keith Terryo what happened to him after he had said who shot you? And he says that Keith replied by making a finger gun. So if you're watching me podcast right now, I'm showing you what they're talking about, right making a little pupu with his hand with his thumb and his pointer finger. He made a little finger gun and Keith Deputey Keith had asked him where he'd been shot, and Keith gestured or pointed to his head. That's whenever he had said who shot you? He said, my son. And then he was just kind of observing around the room while he was trying to assess what's going on, and the deputy noticed that he saw a speedloader for a revolver on a nearby nightstand, and so he then asked Keith, hey, have you been shot with a revolver because he didn't see a gun, he just saw the loader and Keith shook his head. No, No,

12:33 I wasn't shot with a revolver. So Deputy Keith then asked him if he'd been shot with a semi automatic gun, and Keith shook his head. Yes. This guy, in his most dire straits, was able to give incredible information to this officer. And then Deputy Keith confirmed keith statement regarding that the person that shot him. He asked, you know your son shot you, and Keith nodded yes. But then Keith made one more statement. This is before I know, I'm kind of out of order here. But when he said that he didn't speak anymore. He said one more thing to that officer. He looked him in his eyes and he said, I'm dying. Please tell my kids that I love them. Regardless of what type of lifestyle these people lived, it should still break your heart. No one deserves to be a victim like this, and at the hands of your own son, and he says, I'm dying, Please tell my children that I love them.

13:28 That is just disgustingly heartbreaking. So you know they recorded all of this and put that into evidence. Now, what's even crazier about that is, while they're in there trying to help these two and Keith Terryo is giving his dying declaration ascension, parish sheriff's office goes through the trailer to kind of clear it right and to see what's going on, and guess what they find in the back of the trailer in a bedroom, Kim Minks. So if you remember the very first episode, I was telling you there's a lot of players in this and that Jacob Chaston owned the trailer that the Terrios lived in, and there was also the woman named Kim Minks who lived in the trailer with them.

14:11 They find Kim in the trailer in the back bedroom, but amazingly, Kim's not dead, She's not even shot. She's asleep. So I know, right now you're gonna call bullshit because I called bullshit right here at this moment. I'm like, you didn't sleep through two people getting shot in the trailer. I'm not believing that whatsoever. Okay, what I'm about to say is absolutely one percent hearsay. I don't know if this is true or not, but this was told to me by someone who knows Kim minks. Okay, I'm not going to disclose that person because they spoke to me under, you know, ananimity and didn't want me calling him out. But basically, what this person told me was that he knew her from years prior and that they kind of ran with a rougher crowd. And so I'm like, how could she have slept through those gunshots? I'm just not buying that, especially in a trailer with thin walls. And his explanation to me was, well, if they were drinking a lot the night before, or maybe dabbling and maybe some drugs. Again, y'all, I don't know that. I'm not putting this on that woman. I'm just telling you what this person told me.

15:13 Then maybe that's what it was. She was just sleeping really really hard. That's the best guess I have to give you how she slept through it. But they find Kim alive and she's not fake sleeping. They even say in the statements the police were like, she had to be like awakened, and she was not awake. They woke her up. She was not fake sleeping. They wake her up from her stupor. She kind of comes out of the building and she has no clue that anyone's been shot and murdered in the house, no clue. They tell her when she gets outside that they that Keith and Lee Elizabeth have been shot, and she's just stunned. She's just flabbergasted that two people have been shot. Now. Kim immediately gets on the phone and calls Jacob Chaston that owns the trailer and says, oh my god, Lee and Keith have been shot. This is about nine twenty seven am. Listen. Dakota had already murdered the billion them by like eight thirty.

16:10 So he's now killed five or shot five people in less than thirty minutes. What an animal? Oh my god. So when Jacob finds out, he's like what and he gets in his car and he comes flying back to the house because he's just he can't believe it. Right, these are his friends that have been shot now based on the reports that I have Keith, excuse me, Jacob did not work very far necessarily from where the trailer was, because he got back within just a few minutes. He worked at a place nearby, and he was actually near blue by you, so if you're from here you can kind of see where he was. If you're not, it's not a big deal. But he was working for Gulf South Engineering and Testing, which was on Burnside Avenue in Gonzales at the time, and he says, look, I left at six thirty this morning, and everything was fine whenever I left. Now. Kim, on the other hand, she had a reason of why maybe she was alive and everybody else had been shot.

17:11 And her thing was that the truck that was hers, Jacob had borrowed it and drove to work with the truck, so it looked like nobody else was home because the vehicle wasn't there. And if that is not the best luck I've ever heard of in my entire life. Wow, she needed to go to the casino because I have no doubt if he had realized she was there, he would have killed her too. He was on an absolute rampage and he did not care. At this point, they do take Lee and Keith to the hospital to our Lady of the Lake, and they do a whole bunch of life saving measures to them, but unfortunately neither one of them survived. So now we have a body count of five people in less than an hour. Okay, And to make things even more difficult, this is across two parishes. So Livingston is doing their investigation, since parish is doing their investigation, but they don't know yet that they're related and that they've got this common denominator, which is Dakota Terio. So when Jacob gets back to the trailer, it's about nine thirty seven am, he just cannot believe this.

18:12 But because Keith told the police, hey, Dakota did this, you know what Jacob does and this is so heartbreaking to me as well. He says, hang on, I think I can find him, and he gets out his cell phone and he dials Summer Earnest but the phone rings and rings and rings, and no one picks up. And we all know why because Summer was dead too. She just didn't answer the phone. So now we have a hot mess between two parishes. And this is y'all. Just having one murder is bad enough. Imagine having a triple homicide you're trying to figure out, and a double homicide right next door. So two investigations are now in full force between the two parishes, and they do what any investigators would do to try to get the ball rolling. At least Ascension Parish had a suspect livingsteadon't at the exact moment, didn't exactly have a suspect, other than they could have spoken to Casey Ernest, who was the wife of Billy, to say, whoa, you know what could have gone on here? So they start canvassing the area for cameras. Okay, because cameras will get you.

19:22 Man, cameras, you can have the perfect crime, you think somewhere, but the cameras are going to catch you. So where were the places that the Ascension Parish Sheriff's office went. They went to Fred's on the River, which is a place a lot of US locals know about Fred's Food Mart and Turo's Grocery because they believed that those places would have caught on camera the vehicle leaving. But remember Dakota didn't have a vehicle. He would always ask Summer to drive in places, but she didn't have a vehicle. Guess whose vehicle. Summer always drove Billy's truck, her daddy's truck, which was a gray truck. So they believed maybe we should be looking for well, I'll take that back. They didn't believe anything, but they knew that they needed to be looking for Dakota in a vehicle at some point because he was they knew he left by vehicle, So they went to these places on the river.

20:18 They then went to another place called the Blue Bar. And the reason they went to the Blue Bar is because Keith Terrio was known to frequent that spot. So while they're at the Blue Bar and they're asking questions, I already told you that that Master Trooper had called in and gave her story about whenever she was mentoring Kim Patman and Dakota was there, and how Dakota had said that, you know, he wanted to kill his parents, blah blah blah blah blah. Well, all of that's and just now coming into apso and they're kind of trying to put these details together. But they find out from that bar from a bartender that there had been an incident either the night before a few nights before Queen Dakota and his father, and that she also had to kick Dakota out of that bar because she said he was acting like a looney tune and jumping all over the pool tables and causing an absolute scene which I believe was because of methampthetic means, just because of the way they described his behavior. Now, two other things that I haven't mentioned to you yet, but this might be a good time to tell you. This is, you know, some people might wonder well other than him being a total butthole. Okay, Dakota didn't have a prior arrest record. How is that?

21:30 So you know? But he actually did. And I'm not going to go into reading these reports. I will put them one line though for you so you can see the actual narrative on these reports. But there were two incidences amongst others that stood out to me, and one of them was a report taken by a woman she called in. This was way prior to this incident, but it kind of shows you the creepy behavior that Dakota was capable of. She called in because she said that there was a man beating on her door and she was afraid to open her door because it was the middle of the night. But she's beating on the door and he's claiming that people are chasing him, and so she gets freaked out says you gotta go, I don't know, don't let them chase you up here to my house and she calls her husband, who then shows up, and Dakota is just standing in her driveway like kind of creepily walking about and looking around, and he's like, Podna, you got to go. You can't stay here. And so they ended up making a police report about that because he was there was nobody chasing him. He was just bizarre acting and it was just a suspicious person case that had been called in. But there's another arrest that happened, and it's where Keith was with Dakota again prior to this incident, and they found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, and so they were arrested on those drug paraphernalia charges. So he did have run ends with the law. He also had the report of beating up his wife. So there's a pattern here of bad behavior or at at minimum frowned upon behavior, you know what I mean.

23:06 But this dude's got problems. Then. I believe I told y'all last episode that he was dishonorably discharged from the military apso figured that out around this time that he had punched his superior in the face and been dishonorably discharged. So they do know that he has the propensity for, you know, to be dangerous. And that's when they start looking at social media and it cracks me. This kind of cracks me up that people post stuff on social media thinking that there's no law enforcement presence on social media. People are so dumb they post anything on there like nobody's gonna like, nobody's gonna know. You know what I'm saying that that you've located. I mean that you've mentioned these things online and they're not watching you. So like dope dealers, you know, and they like to put up all the pictures of all the money in their hands. You're a moron, you know, you building the case yourself.

24:02 All right. Well, it turns out during their investigation that a woman named Jarrolyn Carter was outside of the Pecan Grove chevron and she said that she was in the general area on Church Point, which was kind of near the Terrio's trailer, when she heard six gun shots in the morning time on that January twenty sixth, and so she said she exited her energy vehicle, which she was in an energy vehicle because she was a meter reader, and she heard six shots, but she said there was no yelling there was no screaming or anything else unusual, and that the traffic was normal. She didn't really see anything else, and that she had then got back in her vehicle went back down Church Point Road towards Roddy Road to the American Seafood Market to get a drink and to use the restroom. And she claimed that at about a thousand feet prior to that Roddy Road, she saw a gray colored four door Dodge pickup approached the vehicle that she was driving from the rear really quickly, so it flew up on her, and so she edged closer to the right side of the road so that that car could pass her. That's how fast he was driving. And as he passed, she said that she observed that it was a young white male driving the vehicle and there was nobody else in the truck, and that he turned onto Roddy Road in the general direction of Airline Highway. She then finished going to the market, that Seafood Market, and was doing meter readings, and that's whenever she saw news crews and police activity near the Tario trailer. And so someone who was outside in that area

25:36 kind of watching and seeing what was going on then told her that a shooting had occurred right there. So she then later read about it on Facebook and so she made a comment about it, and that comment is what led the detectives to get that statement from her. So if she hadn't mentioned it on Facebook, detectives would have never known. Now, what I kind of started laughing about here is not her statement that she made on the internet. It's actually another person's statement that made me kind of tickled. That person was named Lane Guillory. She is a white female from Gonzalez Well. Lane started making statements on social media saying that she saw Dakota Terrio on the roadway that morning.

26:25 All right, so I'm going to tell you something. People, you start writing things and saying you saw things, especially when we're down to now a five person murder, you might want to be careful what you put online. So she says that she was driving her children to the Jack in the Box, which was nearby on black By Road, and she approached a four way stop which was at that Roddy Road. And when she came to the stop and she started to go, she saw a gray truck driving southbound to her right. She stopped to allow that vehicle by which didn't stop. It just slowed down a little bit and then went through the intersection. And so she said, I saw it. It was a two tone Dodge Ram and the driver had his window down, so she clearly saw him. She said that the driver, she described him as a quote unquote maniac or a quote unquote man on a mission. So after reading about those murders on social media and seeing to code a Terry's picture, she then realized that he was the subject that was driving the truck. So she couldn't give the time estimate of when she was at the intersection. But by that point when the investigators were talking to her, her little two children had become restless and we're kind of demanding her attention, and so she said, look, I'll give a recorded audio statement tomorrow, but that's all I can tell you right now. So the detectives go and they say, we're going to go locate the jack in the box where she said she went to just see and try to get a time frame from that surveillance, right because that would give them some you know,

28:00 her going through the drive through with then give them an idea of when Dakota must have passed her within a few so the detectives go and they get the video surveillance footage from the Jack in the Box. But when they went back to miss Gillory's residence to get the official audio statement of what she'd observed, that's whenever she has to kind of come clean because the police never found her on the Jack in the Box video. So step one, if you're gonna say you went and did something, actually go and do it. And that's when she embarrassingly had to state to them that she actually has IBS, irritable bowel syndrome. And even though she left the house that morning and she was gonna take them to the Jack in Box, she never actually went there because she had to ship And y'all, that isn't the official report. And I've out fell out of my chair, and I know we're talking about a mass murder, but that's funny talk about getting called out not being where you say you were. So anyway, if you have IBS, maybe don't write all of your involvement of what you supposedly saw and did online because the police are going to follow up. And then she just really apologized and was embarrassed to discuss that medical condition. And basically the police were now kind of aggravated and they deemed all the information irrelevant to the investigation, but they put this in the record just in case. So now it's on a national international podcast

29:34 that you have ibs and that you lied online about what you want to do. So just a little, a little morning there, be careful what you ride on social media, all right, So moving forward, you know, they're finding out more information about where Dakota had supposedly been and what had supposedly been taking place. Now about ten fifty eight, the same morning that these murders occurred. Listen to that for a second. Don't let that get lost in all my wording, y'all. He started murdering people around eight in the morning, eight thirty in the morning. By ten fifty eight, like two hours later, after he killed five people, APSO and LPSO made the connection, Oh my gosh, we have the same suspect, y'all. That's quick, right, that they're able to figure this out. Also, what became super important was that the meter reader who said she saw the gray truck and that she saw Dakodatario and would identify that he was a young white male driving it. Well, we have meter readers We have license plate readers all over the United States, and I don't think people realize that either driving up and down the interstate and even off of the interstate, there's license plate readers, so we can figure out where you are. Guys. It read your license plate. And there happened to be a license plate hit on low and behold Billie's gray truck, the same one that that meter reader said she saw flying

31:06 by, so bingo. It hit on a meter reader that was or a license plate reader that was it ten eastbound in Slidell. And I even have the picture of that. I'll post the picture for you online so you can see what it looks like. And it's a perfect shot of the license plate and of the back of the truck. So they now even know where he was within a recent time frame. I found that just amazing work there to be able to narrow this down so quickly. So once they, you know, have their their death statement or dying statements from Keith Terrio, he's able they're able to connect this and say, oh my god, we've got you know, this happening over two parishes. The Ascension Parish Sheriff's office went ahead and they are they cut the warrant right then. So it was one count of home invasion for kicking in the doors of the Dakota of the Teria residence, two counts of first degree murder as both of them were dead by now, and one count of illegal use of a weapon because you cannot use a weapon to kill someone illegally. Now, Livingston Parish, y'all, they're doing their deal too, but their warrant's going to be cut separate, okay, because it's a different parish. Even though we have a common guy, we're still going to have to work in our own parishes. So about two twenty one PM, a call comes in from dispatch and they received notice from a caller that said, I think I might know where Dakota is going. He's either going to his grandfather's residence in New Orleans or he's headed to Alabama.

32:34 And now you're like, well, damn, that's kind of a big gap there. Well, New Orleans is close enough, right, So at just about an hour and a half later, an hour and forty five minutes later, a Fugitive Task Force goes down there and alerts that you should never ever, ever underestimate the power of a nosy neighbor because his grandfather's neighbor said he saw Dakota show up. Now again, if you don't really pick up on this, people like to insert themselves into big situations to feel important. Right. Well, they weren't sure is he telling the truth, but they were able to figure out very quickly yes he was, because he mentioned something that had not been said to any one. Only one person knew this information.

33:23 And at this point the only person knew this information was kim Minks and the police. But what that neighbor in New Orleans told them was that he saw Dakota in a gray truck. But he said and he had a black dog with him. Well that was true because kim Minks said that their dog was missing from the trailer and that Dakota was fond of that dog. So it seems that after he went in and murdered his parents, that he got in the truck, the dog followed him and jumped in, and he said, okay, boy, let's go for a ride. And what he did was he drove to his grandfather's house, but then changed his mind and he let that dog out. But then he just kept on moving to another location.

But at five pm the same day of these five murders, a driver in Alabama calls in and claims, Hey, I'm seeing Billy's truck on the road. I'm seeing that truck that's been on the news that they're looking for. And again, how do you know whether you believe somebody or not, you know, but that driver says something that says, yep, he's telling the truth. And that driver says, I know it's his truck. And there's an LSU sticker block letter sticker on the back window. And that was an He gave an exact description of the sticker that Billy had on his truck. Because remember Billy, he loved the Lord, his FAMI and LSU and in that order. Right, So they say, bingo, he did go to Alabama, he's headed, he's in Alabama. So that whoever that caller was that called in, they knew their stuff. Now do you remember in episode one that I spoke about Dakota's early life and his family, and I had mentioned that he had a grandmother in Virginia who he had lived with for a while, and the grandmother tried like hell to love him, but he just didn't act right and was doing creepy crazy things until she finally said, you got to go, and that's when he came back and started living with his parents again in Ascension. Well, that grandmother's name was Peggy,

35:40 you remember her. Well, police here, law enforcement here called up to Virginia and they spoke to Elizabeth Terrio's sister and said, hey, you know your sister's been murdered. Your brother in law has been murdered, and we're very concerned about your mother or Peggy, because we think he might be heading to her, and we know that he's shot five people already. This could be a problem. So Elizabeth's sister calls her mom and says, Mama, you're not gonna believe this. You know everybody's dead. She has to get through that whole thing, but I think you should leave the house. So Peggy and the sister kind of talk it through, and let me tell you about Peggy's house real quick. It is such a nice house. I only saw a still shot of it in a body cam that I witnessed.

36:30 But if it's a beautiful home, I want you to think of like a big almost like white plantation style home. You can. It's a classy home. It's very nice, very well kept. It is the opposite of the squawalor that that Dakota lived in here in Louisiana. It's just a very nice, manicured home. And so miss Peggy says, yeah, I'm afraid of him now. I think I'll leave my house. And so she and her and then her daughter that are that are alive, Elizabeth's sister decide to put Miss Peggy in a hotel for the night, and I think that was really smart. Well, guess what, Nothing happened. The night went, and the night came, and nothing happened. But the Virginia County, Virginia Sheriff's office was put on notice that hey, y'all need to be looking for him.

37:21 He might be heading your way and we need to make sure that we keep an eye out on miss Peggy because we don't want anything to happen to her. But eight a m. The following morning of the murders, exactly twenty four hours and Miss Peggy calls and asked the Virginia Deputies, Hey, would you mind coming to my home and clearing it before I go in, because I'm afraid he might be hiding in the house. The police say absolutely, and they show up. They go in the house, they start clearing it room by room by room. I remember it's a big house, and guess what they find? Nothing? They actually found absolutely nothing. The house wasn't just as Miss Peggy had left it, and Dakota wasn't there, and she's like, whoo right, okay, good, I'm gonna go on inside.

38:14 The police kind of say their goodbyes, and they turn and they walk out the front door, and guess what they find. Dakota Tario pulls up in her driveway in that gray truck exactly twenty four hours later, with the police right there. I cannot impress upon you how absolutely incredible. I haven't been able to detail every single solitary step that the police took, law enforcement took, but I guarantee you that they just saved Peggy's life by being able to connect the dots. Two agencies work together. Callers called in and did their civic duty and they were able to nail this sucker before he ever made it in the house. So the police are like, holy crap, here he is, and so they draw guns. Right, let me see your hands, Let me see your hands. Now, this is where people all over the internet when they watched the you know, the body cam or doing the whole. Oh, they didn't have to pull a gun on him.

39:13 He didn't do anything to them. Fuck you, whoever you are, and you're making that decision, and that please don't ever be around if some shit goes down. You're the problem in society. They pulled the guns on the psalm bitch because he just killed five people, not because police like to pull guns on people, despite what the media may tell you. So he's drawn and he's at gunpoint. And guess what that little bastard does when he steps out of the vehicle. He has a gun in his hand before they even saw it, and he puts it up in the air. Now, is he trying to do suicide by cop? Maybe so, because if you remember that state trooper that called in saying that he talked to him and Kim Patman when they were younger. He said to that cop. I want to go murder my parents, and then I hope that I can do suicide by cop.

39:58 Maybe he was trying to draw that to do it. But guess what, the boys in blue are trained. Okay, they don't want to kill him. They want to take him into custody. So even when he pulls out a gun and has already killed five people and he puts that gun up, they still don't shoot him. They continue to give him to commands. He doesn't quite follow them to a t but eventually he brings the gun down, he drops the magazine, he strips the magazine from the weapon, he drops the weapon, and then he drops down to his stomach and they take him into custody. He's even too big of a coward to kill himself, and in this instance it wouldn't have hurt my feelings, but they take him into custody. No incident. They got that guy in custody within one day of mass murdering five innocent people in another state. Do you know how far he drove And you're like, well, yeah, you just said, Louisiana to Virginia, fourteen hour drive. He drove to get to that grandma, and he still wasn't able to do it. We beat him at his own game and got him and took him into custody. And would you like to know, based on the bodycam when he was taken into custody, would you like to know what his statement was to the officer as he handcuffed him.

Wow, Because you may consider them them bitches, but I think a whole lot more of those people that you murdered, and I think a lot of my listeners do as well, because they were more than that. They were a little teenage boy, his older sister and their daddy, and then the two people that brought you into this earth and tried like hell to take care of you and make you act right. That to them, bitches were good people doing their best. So they take him and they bring him up to the jail. Well, what he doesn't know is that he's got a force coming that he's not prepared for. And the force coming would be a livingstone Parish Sheriff's Office detective named Lieutenant Calvin Bowden.

42:07 Now I'm gonna say this because it's my podcast. I have the pleasure of knowing Lieutenant Bowden at the time. Lieutenant Bowden, I have the pleasure of knowing him personally. And this dude here is a bang up guy. He is a good man. He's he's good at his job. If you walk into his office, man, there's just it's just covered with certificates and plaques and schools that he's gone to. And he's a polygraph examiner and which is not easy, by the way, and he's gone through all these you know, FBI academies, and he's got these challenge coins all over his walls, and he's just good at what he does. He's everything that a victim would pray for in a detective trying to solve their crime. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart. If he ever hears this podcast, I think the world of Detective Bowden and Dakota Terio and all of his smoothness.

43:01 I don't think he knew what was coming. And Detective Bowden drove down there all fourteen hours and was waiting for him when the interrogation started. All right, So I want you to imagine that there's a very small room with kind of like cinder block walls. It's not big at all. There's a table in it, very sterile, no pictures, no nothing. It's just one small room with a table, and there's Detective Bowden and another detective sitting next to him. There's Dakota who is brought in handcuffed, all six foot seven inch of him. And then there's just like this padding type looking yellow thing on the wall, and there's a white board with nothing written on it.

43:45 And that's pretty much what's in the room. So when it comes to an investigation, and I'm sure you know, if you're into true crime, you know this, there's a method to the madness whenever you're trying to gather information from from a you know, a suspect in this instant man, we want a confession, right, We really would like to have a confession. What in the world could cause someone to go postal and murder five people, including his own parents? Right? So this entire interrogation is almost two hours long, okay, And it may sound like a long time to you, it doesn't to me. And I've watched it multiple times through and through trying to take note of everything that went down. But there's certain things that Detective Bowden is going to have to try to elicit from the code to Tario.

44:34 And this is an art as well as a science. Okay, you got to be able to build rapport with this person, make them maybe not trust you, but believe that you're gullible enough to think that they're not a bad guy and that there's a reason and you want to try to extract that information from them. But this was not an easy one. But this one was pretty cool because you know, Bowden is kind of an assuming fellow. He's quiet, he's stocky. He knows his shit, but he's not one of those guys that's going to walk into the room and necessarily make you think he knows his shit. And I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean that in a he's kind of just quiet, and hey, man, what's going on? His job? His job he recognizes in that moment is that he's got to figure out what makes Dakota tick. Okay, what makes him uncomfortable or what elicits a response from him that maybe isn't verbal but is a social or a body language queue that he's getting to him in some way.

45:36 And I'll post this online too so that y'all can see this. But I took a screenshot or a picture of an interrogation sheet that I have, and it's part of what's called the John Read method. They abbreviate in the note taking any type of gesture that this person might make and what they were saying at that time, because they can then make the correlation between what they said and what's making that person uncomfortable. So some of the things that they might notate that the detective might notate is if there's like a grooming gesture where they run their hands through their hair, or if they repeat the question. So like, for example, repeating a question is usually what someone does when they're lying because they're trying to buy more time. So your kids do this, teenagers do this, Hey what are you doing in there? And they look at you and they go, oh, what am I doing in there?

46:22 It's because they're trying to make time and space so that they can kind of think up and answer while you're like, yeah, I saw you, what are you doing over there? And they're trying to come up with that response. You know, if they groom their hair, it's almost like a release of stress, right, You're kind of doing a movement to release stress. It's like people who run in place when they're sitting there and their leg is shaking, they would write that down. When people cross their arms in front of them while someone's talking to them, that's a subconscious way of trying to create a barrier between you and the person asking questions. And it's also a soothing behavior that you do. That's why people bring their knees up a lot of times and investigate interrogations. You'll see them like pull their knees up and kind of hug their legs. It's a signal that they're trying to self soothe. Okay, so all of this interrogation behavior is worth noting, and Detective Bowden is going to evaluate that body language. He's going to document any document any changes in behavior that he sees. And I kind of wanted to show you what I mean, So I'm going to post these pictures online, but I took some screenshots of the interrogation so that I could show you the behavior that is being listed as something worth notetaking. And then I'm going to put a picture of Dakota Tario doing it. And it's so captain obvious, but if you are under a lot of pressure and you're being interrogated, and you're trying to do self preservation and you don't want anyone to know what you've done. Then you're just trying to self soothe and think your way through this puzzle. And the other persons all they gotta do is ask the questions and watch you, you know, and document it. So Detective Bowden starts really

47:57 personable, right, real, general, hey man, what's your name? How how old are you? How you doing? They treating you all right back there Now, I'm gonna tell you right now to take the bound didn't give a shit how they're treating him back there. Okay, we don't care if you're happy, sad, mad, glad. We're just trying. He's just trying to build some rapport with him, okay, to make it personable. And for the first twenty six minutes of that interrogation, Dacoda Terio doesn't say anything. The only thing that Dakota Terrio says on a few separate occasions is say, brook, I get a cigarette. That is what he was worried about during this interrogation. Now, if you're a smoker, you might be like, oh, yeah, I need a cigarette. If I'm under a bunch of stress, right, I need to smoke a cigarette. Well, that's a tool too, we're not going to give it to you.

48:45 Kind Of think about a baby with a you know, that's crying and you put that pacifier in. They start sucking on that pacifier, right, and it calms him, That soothes them so you can get them to go to bed. Well, we don't want to give him the pacifier. We want him to be uncomfortable, We want him to be frustrated, we want him to be agitated to where he's just going to come out with that information at some point. So even though he's not one to talk, that's when Detective Bowden starts, you know, putting in a little bit more pressure, okay, being more direct with his questions, not being so hey man, how you do in type stuff? It's more direct. You know, where were you at this time? We'll tell me about this. And you immediately see Dakota make a huge shift in his chair. He actually goes from his feet on the ground to jumping up in the chair and kind of sitting squatted like a catcher behind a plate. And Detective Bowden even asks him at some point, why didn't you kill the two kids in the house, and Dakota is not really saying anything, but Detective Bowden pretty much tells him at that time, bro, I'm not here to ask you if you did it. There's no question you did this, So please don't think that I'm just trying to ask you. I know you did it, Bro, I'm just trying to get you to tell me why you did it. Because people do things for a reason. What is that reason other than are you a devil? You know? So he brings up, hey man, why didn't you kill those two kids that were left in the house talking about Heaven and Christopher? Because you sure as holl went through and shot and killed the other people. And that's when Dakota says one thing. He says, they was just kids.

50:17 They didn't deserve it, like he's got some type of moral compass here. Well, sorry, buddy, I mean, I'm glad you didn't hurt those children, thank god. But Tanner was just a kid too. He was seventeen years old. In my opinion, Summer was just a kid. She was twenty years old. And even if they weren't kids and they're adults, Billy let you in his house to live because you had nowhere else to go. So don't come at me, and I know this is my opinion, but don't come at me with like you have some type of moral compass here, because you don't. But that's why I'm not an interrogator and Detective Valden is because he then reaches over and says, man, and thank you for that. I want I want to tell you, thank you, thank you for not hurting those kids. You're right, they didn't deserve it. They's just babies, right. I'm gonna tell you the reason I think he didn't kill those kids is because he didn't think that they would play any role in this murder. But the joke was absolutely on him because guess who went and said it was Sissy's friend that did this. Heaven. She's the one who said it in the in the nine one one tape. So Heaven called you out on it, buddy, and I'm glad that she did. Kudos to little Heaven. Right, So we moved forward, and we're about twenty six to fifty minutes into this interrogation and Baldness continuing to kind of throw more questions at him and pressure continues to mount, but he's not saying anything. He literally this is so frustrating. I would have wanted to go straight Beth Dutton

And if you're bad enough to murder five people, you ought to be bad enough to own it and accept it. But he won't say anything. What he does start doing, though, is remember how I said grooming behaviors. He does start scratching his head a lot. So what Detective Bowden had been asking him about that was making him move up into that chair and move and start scratching. It wasn't that he murdered five people. It wasn't that he shot his mom in the face, it wasn't that he killed his supposed quote unquote girlfriend. No, it's because he was started asking about his grandmother Peggy, and that started making him kind of tick. Okay, sod understands that. He picks up on that, and so he keeps on with it, right, bringing in more information, you know, more questions and more questions. You know, why are you going to see your grandma? Why are you going to see Peggy? Right?

52:44 The quota does speak up though, at the around the fifty minute mark between the twenty six and fifty minute mark, and he does ask for a cigarette again, say bruh, I can get a cigarette, and Bowden tells him, yeah, man, we're gonna get to that in just a minute. Okay, I'll get you that cigarette as soon as we get done here. Just hang in there, but the whole time knowing we're just trying to build that pressure and make you uncomfortable. From the fifty minute mark to the fifty eight minute mark, so almost one hour in, Detective Balden continues to say, man, are you sorry? Just give me that. Are you sorry for what you did? What you did anything? Are you sorry? Do you have remorse for what happened? If you're not going to talk to me, tell me why you did it. There's got to be a reason for you to kill five people. Are you sorry for what you did?

53:29 Y'all? If he asks it once, he asks it twenty five times? Are you sorry? Dakota continues to say nothing. He just kind of nonchalantly just kind of looks at him and moves about in the chair. But about that fifty eight minute mark, Dakota does something behaviorally. He sits down on his butt in the chair, and he leans in with his hands kind of in his lap, but he leans in and he makes direct eye contact with Balden, but he doesn't break it. He just stares at him. But it's it's not like a defiant stare. It's almost like a processing stare. And so I did talk to Detective Bowden about what that behavior would mean to him, and he said, well, it can be a lot of things, but in this instance, it means he's listening because he made the direct eye contact. If you're not listening, you're not really looking at somebody right, kind of staring off or kind of dozing out, or of not paying attention. But he said he was listening to me. Now, does that mean that he's trying to formulate a fake answer, maybe, but he's at least listening. So about an hour in he does have his attention. He's not fidgeting with his fingers or swirling in his chair. He's leaned in and connected eye contact, listening to Detective Bowden. By the fifty eight minute mark, he does actually say something else, and he says, say, because can I get a cigarette? Murdered five people and so far the only thing he wants to say is pretty much. Do you have a cigarette? He continue to take the Bowden continues longer, are you sorry? Tell me that,

55:02 just give me something? Are you sorry? And Dakota is still silent, but he makes another body gesture at this point at the one hour mark that's telling. He kind of shrugs his shoulders up and remember his handcuffed, but when he shrugs, his palms come up like I don't know, kind of like I don't know movement, but his palms are up, but they're open, okay. And that when someone opens their hands and kind of goes up like that, that's indicative in terms of body language that they're holding something back but that they want to say something. But then he drops his hands back, but Balden still picks up on it that he's starting to he's starting to break him because his body language is changing. Now he's got palms up and open. If he didn't want to say anything, it'd be palms closed, fists in, you know, making you know, movements to kind of protect himself from Balden. He only asks one thing again at this point, and he does ask again can he have a pack of cigarettes? And Bowden says, brou I'll get you those cigarettes. I just need you to talk to me, and he's like, it doesn't feel like it. I'm gonna get you a cigarette, man, just I need you to talk to me.

56:12 One hour and twenty seven minutes into the interview, now, Detective Bowden says this to him, So, you shot Billy? What was Tanner doing when you shot Billy? Dakota still doesn't say anything, but then in a creepy, creepy fashion, he's actually up now on his feet again in the chair. He's popped back up kind of squatting. He takes his handcuff finger hands, he takes his two pointer fingers, and he grabs his mouth and he pulls it up into a smile, kind of like the Joker. And Detective Bowden says, so what happened? And Dakota is still silent, but he goes and snaps his fingers, but he won't say anything. So Detective Bowden asks him, what about summer? What was Summer doing when you were shooting? And again he pulls his hands up, takes his fingers, puts it into a smile, and then he goes and snaps again, like to just nonchalantly say they were smiling at me and so boom, I just popped him, ended their life. So Bowden's getting somewhere with him. He continues to hammer him with the questions and at the one minute excuse me. At the one hour and thirty one minute mark, all of a sudden, the coda snaps. He jumps up, and he jumps into a full on confession.

We got a pack of serial by the time I came back. But the nigga smiled in my face. When he smiled my face like how I fucked you? I boxed him in the bag of the head. I walked in the back of the fucking three. I walked to the back. Tandor looked at me, but he went to smile like damn.

His smile popped up and walked back in the rooms, and I grabbed me in the keys and I walked around something look. I looked at the little big I waited for the be able to move around the way I wouldn't you got blood on him anything like that. And when you can get a big good kids about walked clean out to go with the kids went down the road her every sing cause I went to my people, and I was waiting to my people. Was in the you know what I'm saying With the mother people, I was like keeping their dosing. I probably my I probed my mom or daddy first. I did there two shots. So how do you feel about that? How do you feel about that? Imagine being the family of these people. Actually, I do know this for a fact, a lot of their family members are actually listening to this. And that's why I want to do so much justice for this for these victims, because if you you know, I understand that people have to forgive so that they can go on with their lives. And I understand that forgiveness is for you and it's not for the other person.

No, how about No, you had a family who tried to help you, and you murdered all of them, and they did nothing to you but try to help you, and then you go work out your sick fantasy you've been thinking about since you were seventeen years old talking to a state trooper in a waffle house who bought you dinner, and you literally did what you said you were gonna do. You took a gun and you went and you killed him. And it's a gun you stole from your father. You killed him with his own gun. Sick, absolutely, sick, completely and totally unacceptable. Remember how I told you detected?
