Drifter: The Murder of Matthew Millican

1:36 of the woods. Now I'm gonna have to bring y'all back to Louisiana though this case is from that area, proof that no matter how great a place can be, there is always evil lurking in the shadows. So while all true crime cases have tragedy and they have heartbreak, this one was profoundly disturbing to me when I came across it, and I don't recall it getting a ton of media attention, and I almost wondered at first as I was writing this episode if maybe it had to do with who the victims were. So hear me out on this one as I get started. And I also want to give a very very clear warning right now that this episode is in no way, shape or form appropriate for young people at all. Please trust me on this warning. If there are young ears nearby, this is not for them, you may want to stop it and listen to it when you're not around the little ones. Okay, you've heard my warning now. Matthew Millikin was super special to his family. Why because he was the first child the first grandchild and the first great grandchild in this family, and as myself the leftover, accidental last born in my home, I wouldn't know the beauty of being the first child of a family, but I can attest that they are in fact loved the most okay, the firstborn for some reason, people like them a lot. And my sister is the

3:08 one that got that title. She was the first born and the favorite of the grandparents. Fight me on it. I have the microphone. I said what I said, and it must be nice. But all jokes aside. Matt was the proud older brother of two younger ones that would follow what I would like to call his guiding light. Okay, because Matt had this essence about him that I'm going to get into in just a minute. Matt was born first, then his brother Daniel, and then the caboose was Christopher. Now these brothers loved hard, but baby, they fought hard with one another to growing up rough and tumble boys exactly what you would expect of boys that grow up close in age and are tight in their family. Eventually, though their parents' marriage failed, the parents were together a total of sixteen years, but Missterie Matt's mom would find herself single, but not for long. A little bit of time would pass before she would meet a man that she would eventually marry, and he would love her boys as his own and raise them as his own. His name was mister Gary, and Matt would his mother had told me this. I spoke to her, and she told me that she and Matt basically grew up together. Okay, that she had gotten married at the very young age of seventeen and she had Matt just a year later.

4:31 So not someone of great means. His mom would go off to work hard to give him a good life. She was young, and she had to work really hard for everything that they had, And so Matt would stay with his grandmother a lot of the time while she was away at work. And Matt always kept his grandmother on her toes because he was a little ball of fire, constantly on the go, an extremely inquisitive child. When Matt was born, he was a bald baby, I'll tell you that. But he quickly became this white cotton top kiddo. And then as a young adult, he grew into this sandy blonde and he liked to wear his hair long, but he took really good care of that hair too, So the long hair wasn't the style back then. Whenever he did it, he was different. But his mama learned, you know, I'm going to pick my battles. I'm not going to fight over over hair. He would carefully wash it and condition it and comb it, and he loved that hair and women would always compliment him on it because it had curl to it and just how beautiful it was.

5:29 So Matt, with his love of his hair, fell less in love with school because truth be told, school became really hard for him, and now that he was in his final years of high school, algebra became a massive problem for him. And shout out to Matt for that one, because I'm with you, buddy, Matt. Math is hard. Math is really hard. I just my brain doesn't get it. So his issue was he simply could not pass it. No matter what he did or how he tried, he could not pass the class. And it got so serious that once he realized that this was just not going to happen, graduating high school really started to fade away as a goal that Matt had. And so his mom and mister Gary, however, weren't down with that, Okay, you're not just going to drop out of school. That's not what we're going to do. And so eventually when they saw him just not doing well in school and him saying, I just you know, this isn't working out for me, they were like, look, buddy, we're not going to let you just lay down and give up. Okay, No, you have decisions to make, and you have one of three and you need to make it now. You will either finish school, or you will go to work, or you will go. You're not going to stay here and do nothing.

6:43 So Matt had asked his mom at one point if he could be a foreign exchange student because he wanted to travel the world and that just sounded so exciting to him. But because of his mother's limited means, that just wasn't going to happen. She couldn't afford to send him to go to school somewhere else. So, as hard as it was for his mama, Matt chose the option of he was gonna leave. He was gonna go. But this is the thing, it was not out of anger, and it was not out of resentment, but it was because he wanted to. He wanted to go and while his mama's heart was broken when he chose to leave. It was the hardest thing that she ever had to do.

7:24 At that time, she had no clue in that moment that Matt felt like she had given him the greatest gift of his life to be free, to go aimlessly into the wind, and to go drum up unknown adventure in the process. And I know it's cheesy, but I have goosebumps. I don't know if you can see him in the camera, but this is obviously not what his mother wanted for him, and this is something that I would not want for myself. But for Matt, this was the dream unfolding before his eyes. And it was a because he didn't want his mom telling him what to do. And it wasn't because he wanted to go be in control of himself. He literally wanted to just travel and see the world, to just aimlessly be out there. So what he did was he packed up the basic essentials that he needed and he left with a friend and from that day forward he thumbed his way literally around the country, hopping trains at times, he would walk. He just was not materialistic. He didn't want a thing in the world, but to just go and be And there were a few times a year that were non negotiable for him that he would always come home and this was done without question, and that would be his mama's birthday, which is right near his own, and he would always come home for the holidays. So one thing I thought was kind of cool was his mom didn't like not being able to get in touch with him. And this

8:56 you know, he didn't have a phone at first, so this was very stressful to her. What if I need to talk to you, What if you need to talk to me and I need to know that you're okay, Matthew. This isn't going to work. She went as far as to go and get a one eight hundred number that was designated specifically for matt to be able to call her anytime from anywhere without any money. And you know, a mama's heart will do anything for her kid. And I have to tell you, I was so uber impressed by her understanding and her acceptance of her son's decisions, but also the ability to adapt and to make a way to keep in touch with him. This is not parenting for everyone, I'm telling you. And she didn't kick her kid out. He wanted to go, so she made it to where she could stay in touch with him. So, while home now became a general term for him because he was a drifter, mama's house always would serve as home base. And to be clear, because I want to be very clear about this, he was voluntarily homeless. He could have stayed with his mother, he could have stayed somewhere else. He voluntar barely was homeless. A drifter chooses to live a nomadic life, while a homeless person is usually something we would associate with a state of instability, and this homelessness maybe due to something like mental illness or some other issues. But Matt chose this life. He loved it. He loved it. So what did Matt look like? Well, now established in his traveling ways for a few years, he would often be seen rocking different color dreads. He

10:29 would his mom said his hair would go from green, the blue to god knows what, But basically his hair changed with the seasons. But he was always gonna stand six foot one and he was always toting this green military style duffel bag on his back wherever his travels took him. And he had a ruggedness to him, but he wore baseball caps and chemo military style pants. But he'd rock a beanie too, just depends on what the weather was. And I know we say beanie in the South, but I think like in Canada, an other player says, they call it tukes. I learned that actually in a nine when one call I was listening to, we call it a beanie down here. So his ears were gauged. He had those big, open circle ear rings inside of his ears. But he had a soft voice and he was more on the quiet side. But everyone agreed that he was funny as hell. He was a prankster. He lived to make people laugh. And one of the things that he was known for that was kind of his thing was that he would blame people who weren't even there if something happened or if there was an accident, and it always made people laugh. So one little story I can tell you is that he was cooking. He loved to cook, and he was in his mom's kitchen at a time that he came to visit, and he accidentally dropped an egg while he was cooking on the ground in the kitchen. And so he had a little young niece. Her name was Kyla, and he said, Kyla, Kyla, come see, come see, And so Kyla goes walking over there, and whenever she came into the room and got close to him, he grabbed her foot and he stuck her foot in that egg yoke on the ground. She said,

12:01 ew gross, but he blamed it on her. She wasn't even in the in the house. He called her over to come in and then he blamed her for dropping the egg and she goes running over to her groom. He did this, I didn't do this, and just gave people a chuckle. But I'm talking about like, even in big incidences, he would blame people who weren't even in the state. You know. He would like to just blame people. And it was funny. People loved it. Now. Daniel and his brother Matt were the tallest of the three brothers. Daniel six foot three, Matt's six foot one, but baby brother Christopher he was a smaller one. He only grew to be about five foot nine five foot ten, and the baby brother, Christopher also had been born with a whole lot of medical problems that persisted his entire life, and that may have been part of why he didn't grow as tall as his brothers, because the men were all really tall in the family. Middle brother Daniel was He's just a big bear. He's a gentle giant and the type of person that you have to push him to make him mad, and he would often act as the peacemaker between brothers and Matt. He could get mad quick, but he was also the personality that he could get over it very quickly and didn't hold grudges, just kind of moved on. And then there was little Christopher, who the family always rallied around him in tough times because of all of his medical issues. But that was kind of the dynamic between the brothers and Matt. Obviously was very eclectic, and as is common with eclectic people, Matt loved tattoos. He thought that they were great. My husband is tatted up. Okay, I'm not against tattoos, and I don't want anyone to take it that way. He's fully tatted.

13:29 Matter of fact, my husband just got a brand new tattoo on his forearm and he told me, I got you on my arm. I said what, And I went showed up to go look, and it's a woman underwater. All she has on his flippers. I guess that's how he sees me. And he made sure that the girl had curly hair just like me. And I'm naked in the ocean, snorkeling on my husband's arm. But Matt loved tattoos as well. And if you're from here locally, you may remember back in I guess it was the nineties when this happened, but our area code used to be five oh four before that five oh four was shifted to New Orleans. Well, Matt, in honor of where he grew up, had gotten that five oh four tattooed on his left forearm and then on his right wrist. He had kind of like a bracelet tattoo, and it was x's and o's XO XO XO. And so when people would ask him, well, what are the x's and o's mean, he'd always look at him and say, it means everything and nothing, and he would just leave it at that, and it was kind of a interesting thing, you know, it means everything and nothing all at the same time. Well, Matt was also an avid reader, and so as he traveled, his goal was he always was looking for public libraries and bookstores like Books a Million, because he wanted to go in and he wanted to read. So while he may have not been good at math, he was very smart.

14:49 He was book smart, he was artsy, and he was a free spirit, just going with the wind. Something he also liked to always wear was a white bracelet that said impossible is nothing. I think that really speaks to his temperament and his high hopes and his high spirit for what he might could do in life. So Matt was also often engaged in what's called tagging while he traveled. And so basically tagging is when people spray paint their name or a symbol or walls or trains or something of that nature. And while look, people can argue all day long the purpose of tagging, because I know gangs do it as well as teenagers who are just being ass hats and spray paint and stuff, but a lot of travelers do this as a mark of their travels and to basically say I was here. Well, he started out with the tag e Or, which I liked because ere was my favorite Disney character growing up. My room was decorated in New York. And Matt also loved music.

15:42 One of his favorite musicians was Bob Marley and by the way, here's a little trivia for you. Did you know or do you know what Bob Marley's middle name is? Do you know? Because I do. The middle name of Bob Marley was Nesta in Eesta, and Matt really liked it, so when he heard it, he loved it so much that as a tribute to Bob Marley as well as to himself and his travels, he combined it with his five oh four area code, and so his tag changed from e or to Ness five oh four. So who knows, Maybe one day you'll be out and about and you'll look up and you'll see a tag that says Nests five oh four, and you'll know that you're looking at where Matt Milliken had once been. But he also was not someone who was always going to be just begging for money. He was willing to work. He would make He would go get these jobs just to make enough to get by and that he could make it to the next town, or he can make it to the next state. And one time I found that he worked at a place in New Orleans for a STEMP that was called Lucky Chang's, And so I'm like, what the hell is Lucky Chang? So I looked it up. I thought it was going to be like a buffet, like a like a Chinese buffet or something. I'm so ignorant, but he always worked as a cook wherever he went, and this place made me kind of because it's like a dinner theater place, but all of the servers and the restaurants are in drag. So it's super eclectic, but definitely something that he would do without reservation. Because Matt loved people and he loved to cook. It served him well.

17:14 And being in New Orleans also was a thrill because Marty Graw was his jam and I totally get it. I live from Marty Gras. I know if you got your last free gift from Patreon Crime family members, it was Marty gral themed because it came during the Marty Gras season. I love Marty Gras. So while not following the traditional path of laying down roots or anything like that, he did manage to make a love connection with another fellow traveler named Meghan. They lived very similar lifestyles and they just hit it off. Now. Meghan had dark hair that it would also shift in style as well, because like many other drifters, she also liked to rock dreads, and she would grow those dreads out and then once they would get too long, she would cut it short and then start over. It's just what was easiest while you're on the road. She stood about five foot four.

18:03 She had this medium average build. But she was a tough cookie, and you're going to learn that about her. She was a tough cookie, albeit gentle and kind. And what a great combo that you can be kind to people. It's free to be kind to people. But she had that side to her that she was going to take no shit and I love it. She had green eyes, she had really thin eyebrows, beautiful complexion, and her personality would be described as nothing short of down to earth, easy going, easy, breezy, blowing in the wind, just like her boyfriend Matt. And she was now in her early twenties. But she had had kind of a rough go of it at first, because she did get married previously when she was really young. But it fell apart quickly and she was now happy to be with Matt and they traveled all over the US by foot. But Matt and Megan had chosen to return back to his hometown because they were over the moon, excited to announce that Matt decided to propose to Megan and she had accepted his proposal for marriage. And it was now February of two thousand and six. When they did what they had to do.

19:15 They stuck their thumbs out, they got to walking, and they sure enough made it back to the hometown right there in Prairieville. Now, usually the plan was this, when Matt would come in town, he would call his mama, Teresa, and she would always say, all right, son, I'm on my way. She would jump in her car and she would drive into town and meet him at a gas station or wherever he was, and she would always just bust out laughing, just so excited to see him because she didn't see him often, and she would get there to pick Matt up. And it never failed that it was never just Matt. It was Matt and some dogs that he had with him, and some random people that he had with him that were his traveling companions at the time. But she would be so happy to see her son that she would just say, look, everybody climbed, It's fine, and they would all climb in with all their baggage and these animals, and she would just laugh with just this joy, and she'd say, look, y'all, I love y'all, and this is wonderful, but y'all stink. We got to roll the windows down, y'all, y'all, this is terrible.

20:14 And they would laugh because they knew it was true. They knew it was true. They'd been traveling, they hadn't been bathing like we all do every single day. But math was Matt was a firm believer that a good hot bath would cure anything, and so his mama loved to help him out with that. She was welcoming to these people just sometimes just strangers, but she was welcoming to them because they if they were a friend of her son, then they were a friend of hers. And it just reminded me when I was learning about this about Twister. Do y'all remember that movie that's actually my favorite movie of all time? And when they would all roll up at Aunt Meg's to shower and eat, and they all smelled bad and were sweaty from the road, but nothing, just acceptance and love. That was kind of how what I envisioned when I was, you know, learning about this. Now. When they arrived, Matt's family did live nearby, like I'm telling you, Miss Teresa and all of them lived right there. But on this night, the couple decided that they would prefer to just stay outdoors on this trip and that they were going to hunk her down for the evening like they normally did in this lifestyle.

21:15 So they had in toe with them. They're four month old pit bull mixed puppy and she was white with spots and she had those beautiful blue cattahula eyes. Now officially, on paper, she was called a Catahula and a Dalmatian mix, but Megan was from California, and California was not very pit bull friendly, and so that's why they had her listed as a Catahula Dalmatian mix, so that it was like a safety measure for Lola. If they took her to California, they wouldn't label her as a as a pit bull. And that's kind of sweet, right, Don't don't put a label on my puppy. So they decided on this night that they were going to sleep at an abandoned Texico station near the south end of Louisiana Louisiana Highway four fifteen, and once they found the spot that they were going to make camp for a few days or so. They were kind of getting set up and they came upon another drifter, and this drifter's name was Hollywood.

22:07 Now I do not have at the time of this recording, I do not have Hollywood's real name. I have tried mercilessly to find this guy's real name, but I haven't yet, but I think I'm going to be able to do it. So I'm just going to refer to him as Hollywood because that's how they knew him, and they befriended each other rather quickly. Hollywood, let's talk about him, a genuinely sweet person. He was roughly in his like mid thirties, shaggy brown hair. He stood about five eleven, and Hollywood's thing was that he would hang around truck stops in the area and he would wash the tires on eighteen wheelers to get just enough money to go buy himself some alcohol. Because the truth was he was an alcoholic. Okay, all he wanted to do was sit on a porch of somewhere and drink alcohol. So to pretend that their lifestyle was normal, I think would be disingenuous of me.

22:59 But you know, as all of us do, they all had their vices. Drinking hanging out with people that would probably be labeled as undesirables was their thing, but it was just who they were. And one good thing about this couple of Matt and Megan is that they were kind and they were generous, unphased, literally unphased at sharing their squat location with someone else who they just met five minutes prior. So in February seventh, the couple got up that morning and they did decide this time that they were going to go panhandle a little bit for some food money. That afternoon, while they were at a nearby Walmart, Hollywood was still back at the abandoned Texico station.

23:39 So Hollywood was lazily sitting there and just watching the sunrise and set and the day go by. When three men came walking past the Texico station, and being a friendly person mixed probably with a little bit of loneliness and wanting to talk to somebody, Hollywood waved over at the men and said, hey, man, y'all, y'all want to have a drink with me? And the men said sure, that sounds good. And it's kind of like a lost soul can so readily identify other lost souls. I don't know what it is. Maybe kind of like how when animals know what kind of people they can go up to for help and which ones they shouldn't. It's kind of like that. I guess they see something in one another that they can identify with. So the three men came over and they settled down with Hollywood, and they all started drinking alcohol together and just getting to know each other. And it turned out that the three men they were also homeless. They were traveling from Florida and they were headed west. So how they had ended up where they were was that they had stolen a motor home while they were in Florida and that was getting them from point A to point B until it had broken down, leaving them stranded in the area. So the men identified themselves as Michael Garcia and his brother Daniel Garcia.

24:56 Now I don't know if you're somebody who likes to research these cases after I start them, I will tell you his name is pronounced Daniel, but it is spelled Daniel, so I'm not miss speaking here. That's how it's pronounced. So the brothers were Michael and Daniel Garcia, and the third man that was with them was their friend and his name was James Nelson, but he went by the name fat Boy. So there's Michael, Daniel and fat Boy. Now fat Boy was chubby. I'm not hating, okay, I love I love my thick people. I'm just telling you what he looks like. Okay. He was chubby, hence the name fat boy, and he was very baby faced. He looked super young. He had blonde hair, and he was the youngest of the group. Michael and Dan Daniel, like I told you, were brothers, and they were of a mix of Spanish and American Indian heritage, which they were very proud of and liked to boast that heritage. Michael was the younger brother, but he was the leader in most aspects of their of their life. He was often the decision maker. And both of these brothers were in their mid to late twenties. I believe Fat Boy was nineteen.

26:07 Don't quote me on it, but I believe he was. Now. Michael had really really short black hair, a really thin mustache above his upper lip, a very heavy brow, but a very narrow and thin face, while Daniel had just these has very long and very big, large facial features. You can tell they're related, but they he's just like a different looking version of his brother. He also had that short black hair a really long nose, but his mustache was super super thick, and then he had that small, little, I guess you'd call it soul patch of hair right underneath his bottom lip. The men sat around, they all were chit chatting and sharing war stories from the road.

26:51 And so later that afternoon, Matt and Megan returned and they walked up and greeted the group. So they all said they're helloes, and then Matt Megan joined in for some drinks and some camaraderie as well. Later on, when it got dark and it became nighttime, the couple decided they wanted to move their bedding from the Texico behind that Texico to behind a Super eight motel which was next door. They just wanted to have some privacy while they were sleeping. They didn't really know the other men very well, and so they just felt like it was a better setup for them if they just moved and made a little bit of distance. But later that night, around nine forty five that evening, Megan left and she went to Arby's to go buy sandwiches for dinner, and then she returned, so the couple sat there they enjoyed their meal together and then they were getting ready to go to sleep when they looked up and Hollywood showed up from around the corner. So You started talking to him and said, hey, guys, do you mind if I come and I sleep next to y'all? Because I think I would just kind of feel safer with you, And so, not really knowing him well but feeling bad for him, they didn't want him to be alone. They said, sure, that's no problem, and so Megan got up and she helped Hollywood to make his bedding and put it kind of next to theirs, and then they all kind of got ready for bed. Now I guess I don't have to tell you this, but Hollywood was plastered and he was shitfaced, and so he kind of knocked out pretty quickly.

28:21 But Matt did take a moment to call his mama and talked to her before they turned in for the night, because while he was on the phone with her, he was actually trying to console his mother. So Matt's brother, Christopher, remember he was the more sickly of the three. He and his wife had just had a baby that night, and the child, whom they were gonna name Caleb, wasn't doing very well. It turned out that when the baby was born, he swallowed some amniotic fluid and he developed a type of pneumonia, and so they placed him in the nick you and he was struggling. He was not doing very well, and Matt was on the phone with his mama, telling look, it's gonna be okay, Mama. He's gonna pull through. He's a tough little cookie. Everything's gonna be okay, and we're all gonna be there for him.

29:09 He's gonna be fine. Now, what they did was they made a plan for their other brother, for Christopher to come in the morning, and Christopher was gonna pick up Matt and Megan and the mama, Teresa, and they were gonna all go to the hospital together to see the baby. And Matt was just beyond excited to put his eyes on baby Caleb. And I want you to know something I found this out in the process of getting this episode together, that Caleb I actually have seen in person and never knew it because Caleb actually went to school where I teach. What a small world that I've walked around this kid and never knew. You just never know what stories people carry with them. It's kind kind of interesting to me. That was very interesting to me actually, And Caleb is the first contact I was able to make with this family, and I just think that that's really neat. So after solidifying the plan, Matt told his mama, I love you, Mama, I'm going to see you tomorrow, and they hung up the phone. So now it was really time to go to sleep. So Matt and Megan they carried this little radio with them that they liked to listen to to fall asleep, and so they snuggled on into their sleeping bags, they turned on that radio, covered themselves with blankets, and they drifted off to sleep.

30:28 So some time would pass while everyone was sleeping, and that it was the quiet of the night. Not much was really stern, except maybe a raccoon and some crickets making some noise. The three were sleeping peacefully, that radio just humming along on this low volume, and those three travelers that they had shared drinks with earlier in the night were now really close to them. They were actually kind of lurking in the shadows and watching the three of them sleep. So when Hollywood Wood had moved his bed closer to the couple and they had separated from this group. That's when those three strangers that they all had met earlier decided that they were going to make a plan to rob the couple. Now, you know, there's a lot of stupid shit that happens in this world, but robbing a homeless person or a traveler probably doesn't sound like it's going to be a big win. But that is the plan that they came up with, and with Michael taking the lead and making all of the calls, he was the shot caller of the plan. They decided that they were going to go surprise the three of them after they fell asleep. It was going to be like a surprise attack, you could call it, and the robbery, by the way, it was not going to be like a sneak and take situation, because the three men had now heavily armed themselves with knives and machetes as they quietly crept towards the sleeping group of three, and without notice,

32:04 without warning, the men bent down and they ripped the covers off of the couple. Matt and Megan, who were startled awake and realized immediately as they were startled awake and sitting up that they were now being held at knife point, multiple knife point and machete point to be crystal clear, so their eyes are wide and they're kind of scurrying backwards to get away from these knives and trying to quickly assess and make sense of what's going on here. Well, Michael took his blade and he pushed it straight into Matt's throat, not cutting it, but with pressure, and he sneered at Matt that you better fucking keep quiet, and you better keep that dog quiet too. He was so close in Matt's face as he's doing this that Matt could feel the breath coming out of Michael's mouth while he is sneering in his face to be quiet.

32:58 So unable to do anything but agree, Matt and Meghan remained near silent as Matt was made to stand up and then walked at knife point further down the wall of that Super eight motel, and once they were separated from the group, Michael then demanded that Matt empty his pockets and give him all of his money, but all Matt had on him was twenty bucks, but he handed it right over without a fight, with no questions. Whatsoever. He gave him everything that was in his pockets, but that's when Michael decided it wasn't good enough and he cut Matt with his knife on the arm. Now, Matt always wore this bandana tied to his pants, and the cut was bad enough on his arm that he needed to stop the bleeding. So he took off his bandana and he wrapped it around his arm to try to stop the bleeding. And that's when Michael turned around and went up and approached Meghan with his knife, and still under the threat of the other two men's knives as well, he demanded any money that she had. So as she's nervously trying to check her pockets, Michael with that knife, leaned in and he started growling at her, you better give me the money now, and she's shaken and she reaches in and she's able to pull out ten crumpled one dollar bills, and with shaky hands, she went to hand them over to Michael, but he was disgusted that that's all that she had, and so he just snatched him out of her hand with just anger in his face.

34:26 And so then she and Matt were forced at knifepoint to go stand on the wall now. Incredibly, while all of this is being done. It was done without waking Hollywood, who was sleeping hard because he had passed out from the drinking all day. The men wanted it that way though, because, if you think about it, that's one less person to possibly fight. It was very strategic that they waited for them to go to sleep. So while Hollywood was sleeping just six to eight feet away from what was going on, the men went up to the couple's stuff and they removed their pillow ca from their pillows. They then took those pillowcases and put them over their heads, blindfolding them, and then pushed those cold blades of those knives into their backs, and they demanded one thing. They told them start walking. So they're blind, they can't see. It's dark, they've been robbed, Matt's been cut, and they're now walking into the woods. And they could tell they're walking into woods because they could hear the crunch underneath their feet.

35:28 And so the couple walked for what felt like forever, their hearts pounding in their chests at the unknown because they can't see, they don't know what's going on. They had already given these men, all of their money, what more do they want? They didn't fight back. They gave them whatever they wanted. So obviously the couple they were afraid, but they remained quiet because as long as they were quiet, they were hoping that they weren't going to be hurt. So while walking in absolute fear in an unknown direction, they were also terrorized by the sound of Daniel's machete because he was violently swinging it forcefully in front of them into the bushes, because he was clearing a path for all five of them as they all walked near silently back into these woods. That'll tell you how dense it was that they had to cut a path and the only noise besides that machette just chopping away were crickets and frogs. I mean, it was just silence, and nobody knew they were there, nobody knew to look for them, nobody knew any of this was going on, And so eventually the stress built to a level that they just couldn't take it anymore, and Matt began to just plead for mercy. So once Matt started saying, please don't hurt us. Please.

You should know that by now, basically telling him to shut the hell up. So terrified but understanding the extreme danger that they were in. You know, this isn't the movies, this is real life. The couple lowered their heads, they became quiet, and they just kept walking into the woods, and periodically the men would do things to try and distort the couple, just completely get them out of sorts. They would walk them in circles, and then they would pull off their blindfolds and then blind them with flashlights and straight into their eyes and make them, you know, where they couldn't see, and that burning brightness. It would make them squint and try to look away. But then they would have the knives put directly in their faces to terrorize them while they're trying to to just sense of what's going on. And then they would ask the couple if they knew where they were, which of course they didn't, and they'd say, no, I don't know where I'm at, where I'm at, And it just was just it was like torturous, and it kept going, and it kept going and it kept going, and nothing was happening other than being threatened and terrified and walking.

38:19 And so they just walked for like ever until the men stopped them. So at that time, they took Matt over to a tree and they removed his boot laces. He had these military type lace up booths on, and taking those laces, they tied him up and made ligatures and then tied Meghan up to the trees as well. So Megan was tied to a tree and Matt was tied to a tree. And while all of this was happening, Michael was going off on the couple, terrorizing them with questions and sneering comments. He kept saying things to him like, you don't know whether you're gonna live or die? Do you?

39:04 How does it feel? He was like getting excitement out of the control that he had over these two people, and it was just it's disgusting, just it's bad enough. You've done all of this, and now you just want to you just want to scare them, You just want to just terrify them. And at one point while this was happening, the puppy Lola, started to cry, and rather than just leave it in the woods or having left the puppy back where they were, they had brought the puppy with them, and so Michael snatched the puppy up and he had his knife in his other hand, and he started threatening. He said, I'm gonna kill the puppy if he doesn't shut the fuck up.

39:51 And he started taunting Matt and said, get ready, man, I'm about to kill your dog. And you're drinking every ounce of its blood. It's, you know, just horrifying what's going on here. And Megan was begging them, please stop, please, I'll hold the puppy, please don't hurt her. So somewhat satisfied with the fear that Matt was showing at the thought of having to drink his own dog's blood. Michael untied Meghan and told her she got one chance to hold the puppy and to keep it quiet, and one chance only. And that's when Michael then turned back to Matt and continued working on him. He hogtied his neck to his wrists, which were also bound behind his back.

40:36 So take that visual in. He's on his stomach, basically his hands are behind his back, and then he's got to rope around his neck tied, pulling it back towards his hands. So now that Matt was in an even further uncomfortable position, Michael said to him in a very snarky tone, Hey, what do you think we ought to do with you guys? And Matt responded, well, hopefully you can just tie us up here, leave us together, and just go on your way. We won't say a word, but this was going to be just the beginning of further torment. He then jerked Matt up somewhat to his feet.

As Matt was trying to say I tried to, Michael reared back and punched him straight in the stomach, the most forcible strike that he could possibly do. Matt's hands are behind his back, and he takes a straight gut punch to the stomach, in which Matt just moaned out in pain. So he asked him again, and he bent down in his face. You know, Matt collapsed to the ground, and so Michael just bent down in his face again like a fricking serpent. He said, do you have a heart? Do you Matt? So Matt, having been punched very hard at this point, was unable to respond. He was confused at at what had just happened, and not wanting to be hit again. He said, I don't know what you mean. And Michael took this as being smart with him, and that's when he unleashed a barrage of punches on the hogtiede Matt, who could not defend himself in any way. He just wailed and wailed and wailed on Matt, and as he tried to catch his breath and recover from the multiple full force blows to his soft stomach. That's whenever the men followed by starting to kick him full force, hands behind his back, legs tied behind him. He can't do anything, and they

42:54 start beating the ever living shit out of Matt. So he's collapsed to the ground. They are mercilessly now focusing on his face. Punch after punch after punch. Three men are attacking him. His nose started to swell, his mouth was bleeding, his eyes were swollen shut, and they just continued to beat him the whole while Megan just holding this puppy just in sheer horror, not knowing what to do, because remember they're still armed with these knives and as if this torture to this point wasn't just overkill. Michael looked around on the ground and he spotted a log.

He raised it above his head and he slammed it down onto Matt's head, which an just unimaginable amount of pain shocked through his body. So now was completely unable to do much of anything. He just laid there, trying to breathe as Michael then picked the log up again and slammed it down and bashed it into Matt's head. And when he did it that second time, he looked over at Megan and started screaming, you think I'm fucking joking.

And the two other men at that point had these glass beer bottles that they had been drinking from when they first were walking back into the woods, and they decided at that point to take turns smashing these glass bottles over Matt's already gravely injured head. So by now, as you can imagine, Matt was totally incompletely incapacitated. And this isn't the movies, Okay, it's real life. He was horrifically injured. You don't just stand up from from trauma like this like in the movies. So in the moment, feeling rather accomplished in their attack on Matt, they now turned to Megan in what I only can imagine to be like a pack of hyenas, because she was seated at this point against a tree, and the men made her stand up, and she complied, she stood up, and that's when Michael walked up to her and punched her as hard as he could, directly in her vaginal area.

45:31 And after he did it, he said, when's the last time this thing's been hit? Meaning in a sexual way, not in a in a punching way, to be clear, when's the last time someone hit this? And so Megan, in all honesty, looked at him and in pain, leaning over, said it was a night the night, a night ago, and to her absolute disgust, he responded with do you know when the next time is gonna be? So go ahead and take a while, guess, because it's about to be in two minutes. And then the three men jumped on her, grabbed her clothing, and physically, like a pack of wild animals, ripped her clothing off of her body.

No, he wanted them to bring her right in front of Matt, who is still semi semi aware but unable to do anything, because he wanted Matt to have to watch what they were about to do to his girlfriend. So Matt's face down on the ground. His injuries are just unbelievable. And now what they did was they picked Matt up and they propped him up against the tree so that he would be able to adequately watch his fiance be defiled by not one of them, not two of them, but all three of them. And Matt was just unable to move, but he used his last bit of breath that he could muster up, bloodied and beaten and just unable to do anything, but he used his last bit of breath to comfort Megan, and what he said to her softly

And that what hurts my heart because just imagine being so brutalized and injured, you can't do anything, but you use your voice, which is all he had left to try and calm his love, knowing all the while that she is about to be abused in the most disgusting and horrifying of ways. The men then forced Megan to remove whatever clothing was in the way, even though you know they had attacked and ripped at her clothing. And once she was unclothed, the men looked her up and down.

I'm telling you what these victims go through. This is going to be uncomfortable. And Daniel walked up to her first, undid his belt on, zipped his pants, dropped him, and then forced her to give him oral sex at knife point, right in front of Matt. So she's just disgusted, but she's so scared for her and for Matt's life that she did. She did what she was told to do, but Daniel didn't think that she did it to his liking because he couldn't get off. He got mad at her about it. So since Daniel wouldn't hurry up and finish this, pissed off Michael, his brother who then swung his machete and hit Daniel in the back of the head with the machete. Okay, like popped him in the back of the head with the machete, so this in turn caused a fight between the two brothers before Michael then said, fucking get over there and finish your business, which Daniel did until he ejaculated in her mouth. So praying that this would be the end of her attack, she whimpered and she tried to clear her mouth out when Michael approached her and told her, oh, you're not done yet, and he dropped his pants and demanded that

I share this as a woman's woman who wants, who wants you to know what she went through, but in nothing but defense of her. This is disgusting, it's depraved. And while this is going on, he half yelled, half cried, pleading with the men, please show her mercy, please stop, please, well fat boy hurt us, please, And he didn't like the interruption into his fun, so he stopped raping Megan temporarily and went over to him and mockingly, just mockingly in his face, asked what the fuck was that before. The men then started taking turns kicking and beating him throughout the gang rape, stopping and starting with both of their victims. The beating was so bad that eventually Matt began to have a seizure, which they took joy in, and that only prompted them to start hitting and kicking him even more. And it's something about the underdog. I don't know what it is in me, but I always want them to pull out a miraculous win.

54:13 But that's like in a one on one fight in a movie where the miraculous win comes in. This is not what that is. What's happening here is multiple people taking joy and mercilessly brutalizing someone already down for the count. And if that doesn't just evoke a fire in you and anger in you, and then to sexually abuse the love of his life in front of him is the most disrespectful thing that they could possibly do, not to mention her suffering as well. I mean, watching this all happen while also having to submit to a gang rape just in an effort to try to save Matt is beyond victimization, y'all. This is pure trauma. It's downright evil and it's torturous. So just for a second, and you know I always do this, but I want to try to make you understand something. A question popped up in my mind, or two questions. Did Number one, why would a group of people want to do this, like a group of them do this to a woman? And then number two, how could they even come together and do this as a group, Like how are you even stimulated excited like with another man went to gang rape a woman?

55:29 Like what in the hell makes this go down like this? So, as I do, I did look into this because I wanted some psychology behind gang rape, and this is what I found. The theory, by the way that I'm gonna tell you is not to justify any action in any way. It's just interesting. So I'm just gonna I'm gonna be really brief here, but basically my thoughts were, this has got to be a pack mentality behavior, as in, like does evil travel in groups? What are the chances of the all being excited by this? And what I found was it all boils down to sexual aggression to impress others and to make their own mark in front of other males. Now I know what you're thinking right now, You're like, yeah, right, that's so fucking dumb, But hear me out. There's this theory called the divide theory of rape, and basically it explains that some men obviously not all, not even a majority, but some men use sexual violence to demonstrate their strength and masculinity to other men, and for these type of perpetrators, having an audience is critical to getting the effect that they want. So basically they're established establishing their power over the other men through the rape, and it is it's like animalistic, like beating your chest like look what I can do, Look how tough I am.

56:57 And the psyche is that women are seen as proper of these inferior males. E. They're thinking of Matt as inferior and so by abusing the property of the rival male or Matt in this instance, the perpetrator is then establishing their dominance over all of them. This specific intent is to cause the victims severe pain and suffering. And the purpose is this camaraderie with their co rapists while they're establishing their dominance. It's sick and it's twisted. Yet this theory, and I read a bunch on it. It fits the bill here. It's evil, it's evil as hell.

57:40 But maybe that's how they're getting off on gang rape. I can't identify with it in any way, but that's what I found. So while these men were establishing their so called dominance over Matt by violating Megan in the worst of ways, Megan was no little weakling. She was thinking the entire time. So when they were mercilessly beating Matt, Michael continued raping Megan until he eventually ejaculated. And I know this part is tough, but Megan lived, at y'all, and I'm telling it in full truth, so that everything she went through is properly understood and that she's given the ultimate respect in her actions during this tortuous event.

So imagine going through all that I've mentioned so and then worrying you might not be able to prove it. I mean, like, bless her heart, but she was thinking, and her goal was to have something testable for the police, whether she made it out alive or not. And I'm just again, as a woman's woman, I am so proud of her that she was thinking. And I want, like, when I was learning about this, I just wanted to reach my hand out and gently put my fingers under her chin and just lift and say, chin up, girl. You are strength, you are smart, and you're alive to this point. Don't you drop your head. You stay the course, you know. So, as Megan was secretly saving this evidence as best she could, she looked over at Matt, and she was beyond scared.

59:44 She had never seen someone so injured and in almost a childlike way. She also was fearing for her puppy. She was pleading, please don't kill my puppy. The Lola was her baby. Just please don't hurt Matt anymore. And she told him, you can do whatever you want to do to me. I don't care, but please give them a break. Please stop, please stop beating him. His face was so destroyed, and she kept begging, I swear I won't say a word, Please just stop. But Megan's please would go ignore it as Michael, who was still armed with the k bar, went over up to Matt and he untied him from the tree with the ligature that was still remaining on the tree. But Matt was just beyond injured and too bloody to be able to get up or move anywhere. He was just beaten to an absolute pulp, So Michael directed Fat Boy to lift Matt onto his feet by grabbing him under the armpit, and Michael then got under the other one, and from there they basically drug a half conscious Matt back further into the woods, but Megan was stopped, so Daniel took his machete and basically held it to her as insurance that she wasn't gonna run off, and so once the other three were out of sight, Daniel then decided it was his turn for some more action, and he threatened Meghan, and he told her, you're gonna give me oral sex, and you're gonna give it to me right now, but she now refused. She said, the fuck I am. I'm not doing anything until I know that Matt is okay.

1:01:15 And now realizing that Megan was starting to buck up and that she wasn't going to be threatened into submission, he kind of didn't follow through with it, and he also allowed her to put her clothes back on as best she could, and she started demanding to him, where is Matt, What are they doing with him? What is the plan? Why did they take him? And she reiterated to him, look, I'm flat out not gonna do anything you want me to do. If they hurt him anymore, I'm not gonna do anything else. And so she straight up asked him are they going to kill him? And Daniel kind of scoffed and said, no, They're just going to tie him up and leave them and y'all, can he'll be able to get loose in the morning. Quit worrying with it. They needed to basically be able to buy some time so they could get away. So they were gonna go tie him to a tree off in the woods, and so the minutes felt like hours while Meghan sat there in the woods at knife point or machete point with one of her rapists, and she just had no clue what was going on with Matt. Well, at the exact amount of time that had passed, I don't quite know the exact amount of time, but sometime had passed and they had been gone for a minute when Meghan heard off in a distance Matt shriek out in pain, unimaginable scream, but it was from a distance, and so she thought, okay, well, at least if he's screaming, he's alive, so that's good. We just have to hang on, you know, that's going on in the back of her mind.

1:02:36 And after Matt screamed, Michael and Fat Boy a few moments later could be heard crunching through the leaves and then appeared back in sight, and Meghan's heart dropped whenever she did not see Matt with them. This time, and both of the men who had left dry now returned with their pants wet on the legs, and they were also wearing gloves previously, but now they were both holding their gloves and they were ringing water out of them. So Daniel looked at him and was like, what happened. He looked at Michael and said what just happened? And Fat Boy and Michael both started to chuckle and kind of smirk, and they said, oh, we both tripped and we fell into a big puddle. Well, not finding any of this funny, Megan demanded that they just tie her up and just leave her there with him, And then Michael turned and sneered at her and said, you want to be in the same position that Matt is, So, while not directly saying it, Megan understood that to mean that Matt was either not doing well or maybe even dead.

You belong to us now, So he added while they started walking that if she behaved well, then they may decide to let her go in the future. Now, Hollywood was still deeply asleep from that intoxication the night before, and the men quietly walked up and took majority of the couple's belongings, careful to not disturb Hollywood. Now. It was still dark at this time that all of this was happening, but Megan could tell that it was getting closer to daylight because of the sound of the traffic. It had picked up nearby and more cars were passing, so she knew that that light had to be coming soon. So they then looked up and realized that there was a gas station bathroom there, and the men forced Meghan into that bathroom, where Michael then took a flashlight and shined it straight into her eyes, blinding her while now again forcing her to get naked. Well, Megan flat out refused because she didn't know what they did with Matt and she was done playing their games. That's when Michael got in her face with the k bar, slammed her up into the wall, and reminded her of who he was still in charge, and he threatened her and she knew he wasn't playing.

So, defeated, scared and unsure if she was even gonna live now to see the daylight, she again complied, took off her clothes and was vaginally raped again by Fat Boy. So now that the men had all been satisfied one after the other, like complete pieces of shit that they were, they all decided they needed a nap. They needed to rest up on the work that they had just done.

She had been so exhausted by everything that she had been through. She too had dozed off while she was laying on the stall floor, and she she went over and woke up one of the men and said, Michael is who it was, and said, hey, I've got to let this puppy out. She's got to go. He said, no, you're not going out of here, and you're not taking the dog out. But he turned a fat boy, shook him awake and said, go take the dog outside to use the bathroom. And while it may not seem this serious to some people, considering that Megan, you know, had been through a lot, I'm sure that it was just

But she now had to just hand it over. And Megan was also told in that moment, when we open this door, if you make a peep, if you make any sound whatsoever, I will kill the dog. And then I'm gonna kill you.

So Michael moved from in front of that nasty door, and as it opened, the daylight peeked through for just a moment as fat Boy went out with the dog, and then it shut. So her hope for anyone noticing that she was trapped in this bathroom faded as quickly as it had arrived. But this is when things took a shift. Now God works in mysterious ways, and this next part is proof of that. To me, I found it odd during this whole story that the puppy would remain in the picture during this whole kidnapping and torture and beating and rape.

Sometimes it's something as simple as having tipee. Because when fat Boy was letting the dog pee outside, none other than Hollywood, who had woken up by this point, came walking up and he had a few questions for fat Boy, starting with have you seen my friends? And I wanted to stop and take a second real quick to focus on two words in that sentence, and those two words are my friends. They had literally known this man less than twenty four hours, but they were his friends, and he was genuinely concerned for them when he woke up.

1:09:47 Because he's mentioning to fat Boy, you know, they left their things. Some of their things are still around, including their radio. That they wouldn't leave their radio. And as he's saying that, he looks up and he noticed the dog with fat Boy, Well, why was Hollywood alarmed? Well, because people of this lifestyle don't just up and leave the very few things that they travel with. And in this moment, it was now dawning on him that their puppy was left behind and fat Boy was holding it, and so Hollywood was a little bit unnerved trying to process what was going on here. And Hollywood told fat Boy, Hey, why don't you just give me the dog and I'll watch it for them. Why don't you just give me the puppy. Well, while all of this was happening, Michael could overhear the conversation through the bathroom door, and he realized this was now a problem that Hollywood was asking questions. Well, there was some old trash and debris in this on the floor of this bathroom, and Michael quietly bent down and he grabbed this old sock from the pile of trash, and then he took that nasty ass sock and he made it into a ball and used it as a gag, shoving it into Meghan's mouth in an effort to keep her quiet. And then, using the end of the machete that he had, he cut strips of cloth off the clothes and he tied them around her mouth and around her head, completely silencing her. He also cut more strips

And as this was happening, Megan, I just want you to know, she wasn't giving up. No never was that gonna happen.
