1:02 I'm recording this the week of Thanksgiving, which is one of my favorite holidays because right, family comes in and they hang out. We get to eat and we gobble till we wobble. And that's what it's all about, right, is to love one another and be together. So I hope that when you're listening to this that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you have all the food, all the friends, and all the family that your heart could desire. But if you don't, hey, you're listening to me, I'll be there with you. So let's hang out together. Before I get into this episode, I have to tell y'all something kind of cool that happens. So I know a lot of us are on TikTok and we're scrolling through. I don't know about you. I jump in the bathtub and I'm just sitting there scrolling through TikTok and I love watching this lady do cleaning videos. I don't know it's therapeutic. I guess because I'm a woman and watching someone else clean and looking to get all, you know, made new is awesome. Well, I'm watching the video and then somebody said in the comments, what do you listen to while you're cleaning? And I shit you not. Her response was unspeakable by Kelly Jennings, and I about fell out.

2:02 I was so tickled by this. And then she made a video telling people that she listens to my podcast as well as Jim's exposed podcast, and I just thought that was the greatest thing ever. If y'all want to go check it out, she's the uh she's called the crazy the Crazy cleaning Lady too too too. Go check her out on TikTok. And I'm not too I'm not too proud to say I was tickled by that and it just made my day. So girl, you get it, girl, clean, clean clean. And I hope that uh, some people go check out this videos. Maybe they'll relax them like they relax me. But that was awesome and I'm so glad that I'm helping your day go by faster. That just means the world to me. And if you could see the smile on my face right now, I'm just tickled shitless. But in this episode, let's go roll right on out to Alameda, California, and this is the home of Eric Hill.

2:48 So Eric is a single guy. He's in his twenties and all around super super nice guy, down to earth. He did have some struggles. Okay, so his struggles included emotional and my god, the world that we live in today, don't we all haven't we all been through something right where emotions just got the best of us. But his emotional problems were probably stronger than the average bears. He suffered from severe depression, He had suicidal tendencies from time to time, and just was really really having a hard time with his mental health. But he wasn't dumb. He worked hard to control these issues. He even took medication He had been on medication since high school and it seemed to work really well for him. He had a regimented plan to try to recognize, understand, and control, to the best of his abilities, the problems that he was having in his life with his emotions. And lucky for him, he also had an amazing support system of people who loved him dearly and they were readily available whenever he needed just an extra you know, boost or somebody lift his spirits. And this included his father and his grandmother.

3:55 His father's name was Gregory, and his grandmother's name was Selma, but everybody Sally, and so that's what I'll refer to her as in this episode too. So we've got Eric the grandson. His dad's name is greg and then Mama Sally. So Eric was a steadily employed guy. He was your average bachelor, I guess she could call him. And he worked as an eligibility technician for the Medicaid program. So his job was to see who qualifies? Could we get people qualified? And he really enjoyed helping people. He loved being able to see them prosper through the assistance that he was able to give them. And whenever he was able to set them up and really put some relief on their shoulders to better their families and better their children's lives. But in his spare time, he found that he was not abundantly social. He wasn't a go getter, social butterfly. You know, I kind of think about how difficult that must be for people. I've never suffered from that.

4:53 I've had the mouth of the South since i was little. I'll talk to a stranger, I make friends at amusement park lines, you know, so I've never suffered that problem. But how difficult must it be to be quiet but have so many thoughts and things you want to share, but you're just not able to get out and about, you know. But he did have a few close friends, and those few friends that he had, in their time spare time, they would play Xbox. They were self described nerds, and they just like to hang out and play their video games. Eric was smart. He was a good person, a good guy, but not necessarily gonna be lucky in the love department. Again, we might get attribute that to the fact that, you know, he had a hard time getting out there and talking to people. So, you know, I'm gonna describe people that's what I do and Eric, if I have to just describe it to you, he's a normal, average looking guy. I wouldn't say anything jumps out as you know, extraordinary, But he's your average looking guy.

5:54 You would pass in them all. You know, he's sporting a beard, he's got a little bit of a receiving hairline. It's a little thinner on top. He's got these blue eyes that shine, and he may or may not be wearing little glasses, depending on the photograph and whenever the picture is being taken. But I will tell you his face has a kindness about it that when he smiles you, there's like a gentleness about him that you can appreciate. And you can see that he's just a nice guy, but his love life would take a change. In two thousand and two, Eric was seated in a work training next to a coworker named May. Now this is not like the month of May. This is an Asian name, me Ei May, so you can kind of get the gist of that. So May was older than Eric, but they had one of those work relationships where that age doesn't matter. And I, you know, work is funny to me, and maybe some people can identify with this. But you meet somebody at work and you befriend them, and it's like age doesn't matter whenever you're on the job your best he can be like sixty five or seventy years old and you're talking to him like they're your sibling.

6:56 You're like, where the fuck are you at? Man, he's like eighty years old and you just your work buddies. Well, that's kind of the situation here. May was older than Eric, not not that big of a gap, but old enough to not be in his dating range or something like that. But May was a friendly woman. Eric really enjoyed talking to her. And best of all, what he really liked about May was he felt like she was outgoing. It motivated him to talk more and to say hey whenever he would see her at the workplace. So she was in her early fifties and she looks the very traditional role of an Asian mom, if that helps to build the picture for you. She's a small woman. She has short black hair just above her shoulders and like a blunt just cut to her shoulders, and then she's got the bangs right above her eyes. Usually wears no makeup, very matronly looking, but you know they got along great.

7:47 Looks aren't everything, y'all. You know, they're just two people that just really enjoyed each other's company. Well, in October of two thousand and two, May invited Eric on a hike with her as well as some other co workers. They were going to get together and have some fun, and so he decided to kind of go out out of his comfort zone, and he decided to take May up on that offer, and he was pleasantly surprised that he did so because he found that she showed up with her daughter named Rosa, and Rosa was along for the hike. Now, Rosa looks a lot like her mother, but she's a much younger version, much more vibrant. She's got long hair and full lips and just has a, you know, a happiness about her in these photos, just a young, a young girl. And as they hiked together, they got to know one another, and Eric was like in what he was getting to know. He found that Rosa was born in Hong Kong and she lived there until the age of eleven, when her family eventually immigrated to the United States, and there she grew up in San Leandro or is it Leandro? I'm an uncultured swine.

8:57 Right now, y'all, San Leandro, someone's gonna have to correct me on that. I don't care. It's just me. I'm being human. But she eventually graduated from UC Davis with a degree in applied mathematics, and let me tell you right, Nah, okay, God bless her for that, because this girl, this heffer right here, couldn't do math to save her life. If I'm ever held captive in this situation and they're like, hey, do this basic quadratic equation or you die, I want y'all tell my family how much I love them. I love them very much because this bitch can't not do math. So you get a degree and applied mathematics. I feel like you're just a genius. Anybody any of my listeners out there can do math like that. You're an engineer or something. Hey, you have my praise. Now if I have to, you know, tap and rack a gun and go kill somebody who's trying to enter my house and hurt my family, I'm your girl, okay. But other than that, mama can't do math. So this chick was smart, is what I'm trying to get at. She was also an engineer like I just mentioned, she was an engineer at a tech company in Silicon Valley, very analytical and very interesting to Eric, so he quickly became smitten with her.

9:59 And he decided to take this just out of body experience of leap of faith and ask her out on a date. And to his excitement, she took him up on the offer, and quickly over the next few months they had a blast together. This opened up experiences and feelings for Eric that he had never had before up until this date at least, and they officially began dating very soon after and were inseparable. Truth be told, though, I want to talk about this relationship because Eric was very inexperienced in relationships with women. Rosa was literally his first girlfriend, and so he fell hard for this girl, hard, hard, hard.

10:43 And you can think back to your first love, y'all. You can think back to high school when you meet somebody and at your first love, and you fall freaking hard, and you're probably willing to let some things slide that you shouldn't. But that's how we grow and how we mature in relationships. When we get older, we know what we're looking for. But Eric was now you know, in his late twenties and early thirties, and this was his first time with that experience, So I feel like he was kind of behind the ball on a lot of these emotional situations that come and ebb and flow in relationships. So he did what he knew to do. He took her on trips, he took her out to dinner, and he treated her to the things that he could on his tight income. Remember he works for the state. He's doing medicaid stuff, so it's not like he was abundantly rich and making a shitload of money. Well, two years would pass, and on Valentine's Day of two thousand and four, Eric popped the question to Rosa, where she excitedly said yes, Oh my gosh, yes, and they were over the moon to start creating this life together. Eric jumped on the phone.

11:44 He called his family and told them the good news. Everybody was stoked for him and it seemed like his life was coming together, and he was most excited to tell his beloved grandmother, Sally. So miss Sally, y'all, she is a widow, and she is the proverbial, doting, generous grandmother, super friendly, and I've got the perfect explanation of her You're gonna love this, y'all. She looks just like missus Claws. I am not kidding you. She is the sweetest face. She's got that white hair, you know, curled back, and she's got she's got kind of thicker elbows. You know, she can cook good. You know she can bake. You know she can. I never met her, but I'm telling you that one can probably slang out a mean, you know, rack of fudge. But she was in her late eighties whenever their marriage was announced, but that did not stop her from expressing immense excitement for her grandson and for his upcoming nuptials. She took to Rosa too. She was very interested in getting to know her, showing her love and generosity combined with just absolute genuine excitement to welcome her into the family. Because Miss South was the matriarch, and to have this new young female joining into their family and you know, bringing her grandson just immense joy as well as taking on their family name. It just meant a lot to Miss Sallie. Now, Miss Sally's health

13:16 had also started to decline with her age, but I'm gonna tell you all right now, she was still able to snag her a little boyfriend. Okay, that's right. Miss Sally had a look about her that mister Lester found irresistible. And for the last eleven years, Miss Sally and mister Lester had remained constant companions. Now Sally was only five foot tall. She wasn't a big old woman. She was five foot tall. She was a little bit on the heavier side, but she had poor eyesight and kind of had some struggles getting around. But I'm gonna tell you now, she was an absolute queen to be doted on. If you asked mister Lester, that was his woman, and he thought she hung the moon. Now, mister Lester was elderly as well, and they took a lot of comfort in having one another around. And hang on, I got I got got it. Rup. This is not I did not plan to say this, but I have to say it.

14:15 This will be the first Thanksgiving without my grandmother. My grandmother, who I called the Queen, she passed away recently, and so this will be my first Thanksgiving without her. But this just tickled me when I was thinking about it, because the last couple of times I saw her, she was in a nursing home. Very witty woman, very beautiful woman. And I went in there and I said, hey, what you doing, old lady? And I went to hug her neck and she said, ooh, honey, these men in here, I just have to beat them off with a stick. I said, what you mean. She said, some man's been trying to visit me up in my room and I told him he's got to go. I cannot be entertaining a man. I'm too busy watching football. And that just tickled me because these elderly people, they want these connections so bad, and when they're in the nursing home. My grandmother was beautiful, that's not and that's not because she was my grandma. I'm serious. I'll have to post some photos.

15:02 She was a stone cold box and those men up in that nursing home was just raving over her. But back to Lester and Sally, so, you know, they really loved each other's company. And when you're older, I'm sure it's nice to have that comfort zone of someone who cares about you and understands you and can put you know, feel the same way you feel in the age that you're in. And so what they would do was find a lot of comfort in one another and They even would stay at each other's houses on a rotational basis, which I thought was absolutely precious. And it just made sense because miss Sally couldn't drive anymore and she needed a walker to move about because she had some balance issues. And so mister Lester, by the way, who's also he was in his nineties, okay, he was dying unfortunately of bladder cancer. So the less back and forth the better for the two of them. So they made this little rotational plan, and they spent time with each other at each other's homes, and if they weren't together, they still bill were in constant contact with one another, and you could put money on it that mister Lester would be calling his beautiful Sally at four p m. Sharp to talk about their day and to see if she needed anything on the days that they weren't together. These two were peas in a pod, and she was just so excited to tell Lester that her grandson was getting married. Now, Rosa's mother may remember the coworker of Eric. She was

16:33 really excited too, and she wanted to help with the wedding and the planning and the preparation. And this was when Eric really realized that May was the stronger personality of the two women, and that Rosa would follow what May told her to do, which was interesting because May had a forceful personality outside of work, but at work, Eric never noticed that about her. She seemed very very mild in the workplace. So Eric found that Rosa seemed to be stressed out a lot, and there were a lot of arguments that occurred between the two of them as the wedding date came closer, but they were able to work it out, and you know, the wedding day came.

17:16 It was April second, two thousand and five, and that was the big day they got married. Grandma Sally was there beaming and they you know, friends and family were there and they toasted to the future. It was beautiful, and then the two lovebirds set off to Hawaii for their honeymoon. It wasn't quite the start though, that Eric hoped for, because Rosa seemed on edge the entire honeymoon, and she seemed easily agitated, and it was like nothing that Eric could do struck her right and not one to be easily angered, you know, But after a week of her acting like a bitch, to put it no other way, Eric had enough and a legit argument ensued and it got so heated during their honeymoon, to Eric's absolute shock, literal shock, where he had no words to describe what happened. Rosa turned around and swung at him legitimate punch, tried to knock the block off his shoulders, but she missed. But Eric was just wide eyed and taken aback, like what the hell is going on because she had never been a physical person up until this date.

18:38 So they got better minds about themselves after that happened, and they calmed down and they kind of talked, and then they were able to enjoy the rest of their trip. So then they returned home and they settled into daily life, where it included discussions of how they wanted to live their lives. So initially they lived with Rosa's parents in Antioch for four or five months before purchasing their own condo in an area called Fremont, and they both agreed that they wanted to live traditional Catholic values, which included the hopes of having a large family with kids everywhere. They wanted a ton of kids, which also made me think about this time that side story again real quick, but hey, add is real, you'll just keep following me.

19:27 But I got on a plane one time to go to Salt Lake City for a conference, and this woman was sitting next to me, and we just struck up a conversation, you know, during the flight, and she told me that she had eleven kids. And I was like, whoo, man, I know a Catholic when I see one. And she looked at me and kind of screwed up her face and she said, honey, we're going to Salt Lake City. And I said, I know, right, because like country come to town. I'm sitting here on this plane. She goes, I'm a Mormon. I was like, oh, I mean I have already told that story before, but anyway, I just thought about it. Oh, she wasn't Catholic. She was Mormon. But they wanted to have a large Catholic family and that would include having a lot of kids. That was going to have to wait, though, because they did something that I would say is ill advised. But they racked up a ton of debt from their wedding and their honeymoon, which that's not good. You never want to start off your marriage in a ton of debt just getting married.

20:26 And so the payoff was going to be slow, and part of that was because Rosa didn't work. She was going to be the stay at home wife and Eric was the one that was working. So eventually their goal was that she would be a stay at home mom. And the problem though, is that she wasn't working and they started to have persistent money problems, which led to a lot of arguments. So Rosa insisted that they make more money. You know, this isn't going to work like this, but that they really seemed to be more of a He needed to make more money, so she would push him to work harder and harder and harder, and no matter how hard he worked, it just never seemed to be enough. And this led Rosa to showing anger and dissatisfaction damn near daily. And I just think about Eric, and I just feel like, you know, his innocence in relationships really paid a price here that he just didn't understand that that that's not how this works. Because like the world I live in, if I'm working and you're not, but you're bitching about money, then get off your ass and go get a job and help somebody out. How about that? Why don't we try that whole number. But again, this was his first real relationship and he was still learning how to navigate these things, and he didn't have much history or experience to go off of. And so what ended up happening, unfortunately, is that it led Eric to be almost scared to set her off. Even coming

21:57 home sucked like he was walking on eggshells trying to keep his wife happy. So Rosa wasn't being violent or anything like that, it's just her attitude was scary. He didn't know what to do with her. And one of her main issues that she had a problem with was that Eric enjoyed talking to his family on the phone as well as those few friends that he had when he was gaming. She demanded that he stopped talking to his friends. She you know, she wanted just them to in their little bubbles. She didn't want him talking to his friends. Now. Truth be told in everything that I was researching, Eric's friends didn't like Rosa. They didn't tell him that. They wanted to be nice friends and support him, but they didn't like her. They felt like something about her was just off. One of the things that they complained about was that she wouldn't answer them, like if they asked her questions, she would put her hand up over her mouth and whisper or the answer. She would go and whisper the answer in Eric's ear, and then Eric would say out loud what she said, almost like if you watch Big Bang Theory in the very beginning, remember how uh Raj would whisper his answer to somebody.

23:12 You know, it just was very weird, and the friends didn't really like her, but they were happy for him, and so they didn't say anything. So as it would happen, she drove a wedge between the friends, and he ended up losing all of his friends, so it was just him, her, and then his family that he would talk to. But this eventually this wedge moved over into between him and his family and he ended up pulling away from them. Even his beloved grandmother, Miss Sally Rosa, had just become overly jealous of everyone and wanted him separated and all of his attention focused on her. One thing she did that I read about that I thought was kind of Kuckuo Kachow was that she would listen in on all of Eric's phone calls, which the only person you really was talking to at this point was his dad. Now, when I say, listening in. I legit mean like on the phone, listening to everything that they talked about. So much so now that Eric had developed a code word, a code word that he would use with his dad to let him know if she was listening in or not.

24:22 It was like Eric had no outlet, no one to talk to without her running interference the entire time. So Eric continued to try to just be the best husband. But within just months of being married, they had a new focus to deal with. And you already know what it's gonna be. Rosa was pregnant and the two for the moment were overjoyed. Here we go, We're doing this where I'm gonna have a baby. So in June twenty first of two thousand and six, that's when their baby girl was born. I'm not gonna use her name because I don't think her name matters in this story, but just I'll call her baby girl or the daughter. But you can imagine just a little sweet little shab baby born and shabby in a South that's a Southern thing.

25:07 That's a you know, shab baby. That's what we say, oh shah if you think somebody's precious or whatever. So Eric was admittedly scared and a nervous wreck about being a first time dad, but he was just loving every single second of it. And to make ends meet now with all of these additional costs, he took up a second job. And I want to tell you what his schedule was so you can understand what I mean by a second job. I don't mean like he cut a yard every now and then for extra forty bucks. During the day, he worked eight to five at social services, and then he had a break from five until eleven thirty pm. But then from eleven thirty pm until eight the next morning he was working at a pharmacy as well as working shifts on the weekends. This guy never slept.

25:58 He was running on fumes, if you want to call it that. And as you can imagine, no sleep, newborn baby, stress about money, he was not having a good time. Well we could say that, we could all agree. But he took his vows seriously, He took his role as a daddy seriously, and he did everything he could to provide for his family. But y'all, it just wasn't enough. No matter what he did. He was working constantly, he was beyond tired. But when he would get home, Rosa and him would get into fights, and these fights were continuing to escalate. So basically her view, let's talk about what Rosa's issue was. Her view was that she was the mother and she was the wife, and it was her way or the highway, and Eric was almost willing to bend to do that. So you can find or you can understand why he was beyond shocked when he came home one day and she said she wanted a divorce.

27:00 He was willing to do anything to make this woman happy. He was working his dick into the dirt, and no matter what he did, it wasn't enough, and so he said that he just felt like a complete failure. There weren't any more hours in the day, there was not much more he could do, and not to mention the worst of all, he wasn't getting to see his baby girl. He wasn't home enough. So in March of two thousand and seven, they had been married two years at this point, and Rosa had started going and staying at her parents' house every now and then with the baby, but eventually he just became every day. She just stayed there, and so Eric was still responsible for the bills and he had to keep working, but he was coming home to an empty house. He was lonely, he was sad, and he was missing his baby girl. But what could he do.

27:47 He was kind of stuck. And all of the stress of this eventually came to a head, and Eric's mental health issues that he had had since he was younger really started to show. The depress was really taking over him. At one point, it got so bad, y'all, Eric put a knife to his wrists and was kind of threatening to kill himself, and so he actually took some time off of work and he went to an intensive outpatient program specifically designed for people who suffer with suicidal and depressive thoughts. That's how legit these issues were. These are not someone who's like, oh, I'm depressed. No. He went to an outpatient program like weeks long, okay, to try to get himself together, and he eventually did return to work.

28:29 But about a year later after that had happened, he had another breakdown at work. It was so bad that his supervisor actually drove him straight to the hospital and they put him back in that inpatient program for a little while. So you can see how bad he was struggling with everything going on. So Rosa now was adamant she wanted the divorce that she'd been threatening, and being the man that he was no matter what he was going through, he allowed Rosa to kick him out of the house that he paid for. He left the house so that she and his daughter could have somewhere to live. The other thing too, is that she had all the control over their bank accounts, the bank accounts he was putting money into. So he's basically out in the rain like a you know, poor wet dog, just sitting there, and he realizes, my god, I don't have anywhere to go, nor do I have any money to go anywhere. And so he decided to go to the place that he knew he could go no matter what, where somebody loved him, and that was his grandma's house. So he knocked on the door. Miss Sally accepted him with open arms. She was thrilled to have him back in her life, especially since they had been distanced for so long. It felt like and Eric just had immense relief knowing that he had a place to sleep and he was loved. And now he decided that he wanted to tackle his most pressing pressing issue that was that, as of June of two thousand and seven, Rosa refused to let him see his daughter at all, would not give him any time

30:03 with her, and that included her very first birthday. He couldn't even see her, give her a gift, go to her birthday party. Nothing. She said, no, you're not having any of it. Well, Eric, who's normally mild mannered, had enough. He got pissed and he decided that he was going to go and get partial custody of his daughter. Well, as soon as he filed that paperwork, things got ugly ugly. And when I say ugly, I mean damn your diabolical. So the PaperWorks filed. Eric's trying to get his you know, his crap together, and he's sitting at work one day and he gets called into his boss's office regarding an email that he had sent. So he goes in and he sits down and the boss is really, you know, kind of asking questions that are kind of pointed, and finally he's like, you know, what's the deal, and the boss admits, look, dude, I'm I'm kind of I'm really worried because you know, why did you send me this email saying that you're off your medication and that you're gonna shoot up the workplace. Well, Eric was just blindsided by the accusation. He's like, what are you talking about.

31:12 I've never missed. I haven't missed my medicine. I haven't not taken my medicine. And I don't even own a gun. I've never owned a gun in my life. Not to mention, I didn't send you an email that says that, Like, where is this even coming from? Well, think about it. The boss had already brought him to the emergency room one time for a mental breakdown. So the boss wasn't convinced. And the boss was like, dude, I you know, I don't know what to tell you, but you know we can't have you threatening to shoot up the place. And he immediately suspended Eric from work while he conducted an investigation on him. So Eric was sent home. He's frustrated beyond belief, and he's in a really bad way. Okay, he's got lawyer fees mounting because he's trying to see his daughter, plus all of the other bills, the debt that's already been you know, built because of the wedding and the honeymoon and now he's not even able to go to work and make money. And that investigation on him lasted months before it was completed, and then even after the investigation was completed and he was cleared of the whole situation, they still forced him to go to a psychiatrist before they would even allow him to come back to work. So, you know, he's between a rock and a hard place. So he went, he went and saw the psychiatrist, and the psychiatrist clears him to go back to work. Shocker, right. So the issue was that the damage was already done, both emotionally and professionally. You know, Eric's looking crazy here. But there was one bright spot, and that was that a judge ruled he would get

32:44 fifty percent custody of his daughter. And this would prove a very bittersweet moment for him because when he finally got to hold his baby girl, she was now a walking toddler, and the realization hit him that he had missed so many firsts. I mean, he missed her first steps, he missed her being an idybity baby. But he was very happy that at least now he was getting to have some time with his baby girl. But that joy would be short lived. A few months after Eric was granted that fifty to fifty custody, Rosa called the police in a panic. When the police showed up, she was telling them that Eric had been caught sexually abusing their daughter and that she needed him nowhere near this baby and right now. Obviously this was an effort to make him lose custody. It was a very damaging accusation, and Eric really was afraid of losing his daughter. He's like, oh my god, now it's gonna happen with my job.

33:56 And not to mention his freedom, you know, am I gonna be all locked up for something didn't do? I mean, he was painted a monster and really was in a position dumbfounded. How do you defend yourself against something that didn't happen? First, that email that was since say, he's going to shoot up his workplace and he's having to defend himself on that. Now this claiming that he's a molester of his own daughter. So again an investigation had to be opened, and it took time to assess the accusations that were made when it was all sudden done, though, the courts found that the story was totally fabricated and Eric was cleared of any and all inappropriate contact with his daughter. And as a result of those lies that Rosa told the courts, the courts responded by taking away her rights because of her behavior. So from that point forward, once she it backfired on her, she became increasingly uncooperative.

The mediator in the case wrote that she was exhibiting bizarre behavior, things that included paranoia and suspiciousness of her own daughter, a little baby, like what do you do in lady. So as Rosa's behavior became worse, so did her custody situation. So it went from you know, fifty to fifty. Now it was sixty forty, then it was seventy thirty in Eric's favor, and he was given eventually eighty percent physical custody of the baby and one hundred percent legal custody of the baby. So, needless to say, Eric and Rosa from this point forward had limited communication. They did not do well talking to one another. And that's where Rosa's mother may really became important because she became the go between of the two people whenever they had to discuss something. So some things had shifted at work, and May was now working in a different unit than Eric, so they didn't have really that many interactions, but they absolutely remained cordial at the job.

35:55 If May was ever upset, she didn't show it, and communication continued through her and Eric thought, well, that's just how it's gonna be, and I'll just talk to May, no problem. Well. By January of two thousand and nine, Eric and his daughter were living with his grandmother, Sally, who just ate up all of her time with the baby girl. He would talk about how they played little games together and she would sit on the bed and sing little songs and just have some really really precious moments together. Well, it was January seventh, two thousand and nine, when Eric woke up, got the baby ready, and they left the house about seven am before Miss Sally even woke up, and after dropping the baby at daycare, Eric went on to work. Well, that afternoon, Eric was still gone.

36:42 He wasn't back home from work when mister Lester called at four pm, like he always did to talk to miss Sally, and as always, he called it four pm sharp, but Miss Sally didn't answer the phone. Oh, he left a voicemail. You know, hey, Sally, please call me back, and then he called a second time. He left another message, Sally, where are you? Call me back? It's my second call. He called a third time, left another message, and with each voicemail, his elderly little voice, you can tell it becomes more and more concerned about where are you? Sally. Well, after an hour goes by and he's unable to reach her, he calls his son. It's about five pm now. He calls his son Jeff and his daughter in law Uda, which by the way, is spelled ute Uda, and he asks him, Hey, would y'all mind going and doing a wellness check on Sally. I cannot get a hold of her.

37:43 I'm afraid something might have happened to her. So Jeff and Uda say sure, no problem. They jump in the car and they jet off to miss Sally's house. They get there about thirty minutes later and they start banging on the door. No answer. She won't come to the door, so Uda rang the doorbell a couple of times, kept knocking. Jeff if even went around in the backyard looking for her. They didn't find anything, so they decided, rather than leave, they would just wait for Eric because he should have been home be coming home shortly thereafter. So about twenty minutes later, as like clockwork, Eric and the baby pulled up where he was kind of surprised to see somebody there. So Jeff introduced himself and explained, Hey, we're here because my dad, you know, blah blah blah blah blah, I wanted to check on her. So Eric immediately became worried and he's like, oh God, I hope she didn't fall or have a stroke or something along those lines. So he opened up the garage and they all entered the house together through the garage door. He's carrying the baby in his arms. So Jeff and Uda waited in the family room while Eric carried the baby upstairs to go find miss Sally. And he checked everywhere he couldn't find her.

38:49 He checked her room, the bathroom, nothing, and she wasn't answering, and that's when Eric just heard this noise. He didn't know what it was, but he heard a noise behind him, and when he turned around, to his utter surprise, May was standing in the upstairs of miss Sally's house. So Eric is clearly shocked and says, why are you here? And May says miss Sally called me to come over. Well, Eric knew in his gut that didn't happen. Miss Sally did not have that type of relationship with May, but it was such a strange situation, and he was so confused as to what was going on. He's just standing there looking at her, and he kind of starts to internally panic. It just doesn't make sense, and he knew that there was something very strange about this. So Eric turns and he slowly sets the baby down, and he says, where is my grandmother? And May says she went out shopping. Well, Eric knew instantly something's not right. Okay, if my grandma went shopping, how did you get in the house. And May says that she came through the door in the garage. Okay, boom.

40:12 This made no sense whatsoever. Eric had opened the garage himself and walked in with people. Miss Sally also never would have gone out alone. She couldn't even go shopping if she wanted to. She didn't drive, and so especially at this hour it was five o'clock, that's like midnight to an old person. So realizing that this was not right, Eric jetted out of the room and started running downstairs to go to the garage to see if his grandmother's car was actually in the garage, because in his mind, that would be solidify what May was saying. But before he could even get to the stairs, to his just horror, Rosa jumps out of a side bedroom wearing a black trench coat. So he stops dead in his tracks, his eyes wide open, and he realizes, oh shit, this is an ambush, And before he can even respond to what's going on, he felt a huge crack on the back of his head, followed by these pop popping noises, so he immediately fell down in the hallway where the attack was on. Eric was being beaten ruthlessly by May and Rosa.

41:25 May is beaten the shit out of him with a baton, and the entire time that's happening, Rosa is popping him over and over again with a stun gun. That's what the popping sound was. The crack to the back of his head was a metal baton like police use. It's called an asp asp asp And y'all have to understand, these suckers. When you crack, when you pop that baton out, you cannot It doesn't even close without you slamming it down. On the ground because it's so it's so strong and rigid and metal, and she is just cracking him upside the head with this thing over and over and over again. So while that's happening, remember Jeff and Uda had stayed downstairs while Eric went upstairs. Well, when they heard that pop pop, pop pop of that stun gun, they misinterpreted it as gunshots. So they both take out, take off, running, shoot out of the door, no pun intended, and they run to the next door neighbor and start beating down the neighbor's door, screaming, please call nine one one, Call nine one one. So the whole time that's happening, Eric is they're beating him and stun gunning him, and just he's he's weakened, but he's doing his best to fight back.

42:42 So he's kicking and he's pushing, and he's as soon as he'd get one woman off of him, the other one would be there. And he was greatly injured by these blows to his skull. By the way, just for perspective, with these batons, it is against pun like in law enforcement, you do not crack people in the head with these batons. That actually meets the muster of deadly force. Okay, and that's a whole nother discussion, but just to put it into perspective, you don't crack people in the heads with batons. You don't kick people in the head, all right. So they struck him so hard it actually bent the asp and I have a picture of it to prove it.

43:24 I know someone's probably call him bullshit right now. I have a picture of it that I will show you. So it was bent, and there is blood dripping all over the carpet. There's bloods again. This is a fight for life and it's legit. You have to look at the photos to see how bad this is. And he's so weakened due to his head injuries that he's actually able at one point to take the baton from May and he starts just wildly swinging it and he knows he's making contact with something, but he just can't see well and he doesn't know what he's hitting. So he becomes so weakened, though, May is able to take the baton back from him, and that's when she does something friggin creepy. She gets on top of him and she places the baton over his throat and she starts pushing down full force, just pushing and cracking on his throat.

44:26 And that's when now Rosa walks up and puts a gun to his head. Not a stun gun, a gun gun. So Rosa screams, stop fighting now, and he stops because he sees the gun. Not to mention, he can't breathe, and May speaks not Rosa, and May says, will you give up custody of your daughter? So he's just staring at them. He's wounded, he can't breathe, and he certainly does not want to give up custody of his daughter. And that's when Rosa cocks the gunk and she puts the gun straight to his face. So, needless to say, he's scared shitless. He's staring at this gun. And again she says, are you gonna give up custody? And May says, I'm your friend here, but ros is gonna hurt you.

45:26 So he assesses the situation and he agrees right then and there. Yes, I will give up custody now. He didn't want to, but he desperately wanted to live. Now. Something even sadder during that moment that I want you to envision is that the baby had been locked in a bathroom by May and the lights are off. So while this whole fight's going on, things are crashing and people are screaming, and the stun gun's going off, and all of this is going on, that baby girl is by a locked door with the lights off, banging and screaming on the door. Daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy the entire time. The heartbreak that Eric felt in that moment is almost palpable. What do you do? Do you die or do you lie? You know? So, by the grace of God and God alone, while he agrees to give up custody, he can hear sirens going off in the background.

46:32 He can hear police sirens. He's still got the gun to his head. So police come in to the home. Remember police were told in that nine one one call by the neighbor that shots were fired, because that's what Uda and her husband thought they heard. So as the police enter through the garage, they came in when they were still screaming and struggling and fighting. And what they they do here is a man yelling, please don't kill me, Please don't kill me. I don't want to die. So they make entry. There's two of them and they make entry. There's one with his partner, and as they slowly are coming up the walls trying to figure out what's going on, they're seeing blood spattered all over the walls. On the ground, there's a taser. There's also bullets on the ground, unspent ones, but bullets are on the ground. And as they come up, that's where we meet where the last thing I said about her with the gun to his head. So the police come around the corner and they realize that they've caught this battery and this assault and whatever is going on literally mid situation, and so they order everybody to freeze, do not move. So from the police standpoint, I want you to understand what they see. There's a larger white male on his knees with his back to them. Okay, so they're behind Eric, and then there's one small Asian female facing them, and she has blood dripping down the

48:04 front of her head because she has a wound on her forehead. Rosa is nowhere to be seen. So the police don't know who the aggressor is, they don't know what the hell's going on, and they certainly don't know who the victim is. All they knew at this moment was they believe that there had been shots fired, and they had no weapons secured, and they've got an absolute barrel, you know, of a fight going on in this hallway. Super stressful for the police with minimal information to work with, and so the police give their commands, show us your hands now. So the male in the situation from the police standpoint, which is Eric, he does not comply. He jumps up and he tears off into the other bedroom.

48:46 So why did Eric run? Well, it's what the police couldn't see that made Eric run. But I'm trying to explain to you what the police were seeing and why this goes the way that it goes. What they couldn't see was Rosa was still Rosa was still in that side bedroom. They couldn't see her, but she was pointing the gun at his head the entire time that the police are making him freeze and may freeze. So Eric had to make a choice in his mind, run for it, or she's gonna put a bullet in my head. So he decided to run for it. Now, if this wasn't scary, it would almost be comical. But Eric tears off, running into that side bedroom. The police take chase because in their mind he was the one that was the aggressor, and they tase him. He gets tased by the police, and so they subdue him after tasing him, after he's alty had the shit beat out of him, and he's in so much pain right he can't get up, and he's yelling, my daughter, my daughter's in the other room, my daughter, and he's trying to explain to them about the daughter, but they don't know anything about the baby, and they don't know who the daughter is or what he's talking about, so they subdue him on the ground. Luckily, training helped, and there was an unexpected placement of a mirror in the hallway that proved vital in this situation because as that first officer had tased Eric and was taking him down, the second officer just happened to look in that mirror and it angled perfectly that he could see Rosa in that bedroom off to the side with

50:17 the gun that they couldn't see, so he jumps into action and gets her and they get everybody in to handcuffs until they can get it all sorted out. So they go out the front of the house and Eric is placed in a police car. May has to be put in an ambulance because she is a big head wound from Eric not going to block off with the ASP and the police kind of noticed though that May is wearing a heavy tan coat and black pants and she seemed to be layered in clothing. They thought it was odd. They make note of it, and then she's taken to the hospital to be treated for her head wound.

50:59 Rosa in the time, is just standing in the front yard. She's handcuffed, but she's just standing there, and so the deputies looked at her and we're like, why is she in a long black trench coat. There was mud and dirt on it, and she also had multiple layers of clothing on. It was odd and it certainly didn't make sense. So Eric is in the back of the car the cop car, screaming. No one's really listening to him because understand there's a lot of drama going on right now, and he watches helplessly as CPS shows up Child Protective Services, and he sees them take her tiny little hand, his daughter's hand, and takes her away, and he is just beside himself. So Nate Schmidt, he's the officer on scene, and he's trying to understand what's going on. There's two small women bloodied, and then there's one larger male and in the moment, it really seemed like this was your typical domestic violence, you know, gone way wrong. A male aggressor beaten up two women, which is also what the two women seem to be implying. But the cops are just having a problem with it because Rosa's demeanor was weirdly calm. She wasn't acting like someone that had just been involved in a potentially deadly encounter, and neither was May.

52:13 They both were just very oddly calmdemnar stoic about what was going on. So the police, in their gut, felt that something was a miss, but they were trying to figure it out, and a gut feeling is never enough to make a decision on so Yosinia Sanchez, she's a detective with the Dublin Police Services. She shows up and at six h three exactly. Eric is in the back of the cop car, and when she looks at him, she says, he's wild eyed, he's dishoveled. He looks to be in complete disarray, and he's yelling and screaming in the back of the cop car. And when she goes over there and she actually is really listening and taking in what she's saying, she realizes he's screaming about an additional person and there's another person that is I don't know where she is. And so police open the door and they're like, what are you talking about, and he says, my grandmother, My grandmother is gone. This is her house.

53:12 We can't find her. You know, she's in mobiles. They had to have done something with her. And that's when the light bulb goes off and the cops are like, wait a minute, whose house is this and he goes, it's not my house, it's my grandmother's house. Help her. Where is she? So police are like, how the hell does your grandma fit into all of this? Why would grandma be missing? So she doesn't drive. They go look the car, the silver Toyota Avalon is still parked in the car and detectives searched the home just like Eric had done. Sally's nowhere. They check all of the rooms. Where is Sally? Nobody can tell, Nobody knows. So in the meantime, during a search of Rosa, right search incidental to arrest, So they're searching her and checking her pockets.

53:58 They find a revolver in Rosa's pocket. Remember she had it to his head. But when she jumped into that bedroom to hide and had the gun to his head once the cops came into the hallway, she's slid it into her pocket. They opened the chamber and they find that four bullets are missing. There's one live round still chambered. Though, wait a minute, the cops are now saying, maybe she's not a victim, Maybe this is a suspect. And I know in the way I told the story, you're like, well, dub, But remember they don't have all this background history. They just showed up to what they thought were shots fired, and they realize Eric must be telling the truth. You know, this is his grandmother's residence. They verified it. He should be here, these women shouldn't be here. So based on the circumstances, they put it all together and the women are arrested on suspicion of a felony, and they believe that it was domestic violence in nature. So by this time, it's now the wee hours of the next morning, nearly one am, and Rosa is brought into the police headquarters to be interviewed about what is going on. She's still dressed in that black trench coat. She's got these oversized glasses on, like real big round glasses. Very unassuming, very calm.

55:12 Whenever they were asking questions, she comes across as meek and quiet spoken and a scared little woman. And they want to know why were you at the house? Explain it to us, and she says, well, I was there because of a custody dispute over our daughter. She said, the grandmother called me there, I showed up. I didn't see anyone. I walked throughout the house. I called for them or for her. She never showed up. And so she says she waited for Eric to get there, and when Eric got there, he went batshit crazy on her and it turned into a physical altercation. She said, Eric threw me to the floor, he beat me in the head, and then he pulled a gun on me. She said, I was so afraid he was going to kill me.

55:54 I just didn't know what to do. And Eric, in the moment, dropped the gun and I picked it up, and I put put it in my pocket, right, Because that's how you're gonna save yourself. Put a put a gun in your pocket. A crazed man who just put a gun to your head just randomly just dropped it, and you put it in your pocket for safekeeping. Sure makes a whole lot of sense. I'm sure the police believed every word of it. So they look at her and go, okay, but why were you in the house, Like why would you go in a house that you're not part of? And she never really answers why she was in the house. She's very vague, and the police knew that she was being deceptive. They just couldn't understand what was why. They're trying to figure it out. Well, during that questioning, a phone call comes in and the police are told, hey, y'all, we found Sally right, Oh my god, thank god. Where was she? She was locked in her own shed in her backyard. And the deputy is like, oh, thank god, Okay, is she okay? You know, how is she doing well? Let's talk about that. So while the police were searching the grounds of the home to try to find her, there was a shed in the backyard and it was locked. It had an actual closed lock on it, but there was a crack that they could see through the door. It wasn't like a perfectly sealed building. And in the crack they could see a trash can in there. Now, this is one of those rubber made like big thick trash cans, kind of like the ones you see on school grounds, and there's

57:27 trash and it's stacked really high. I'm talking about over the top of the lid of the trash can another three feet. There's just bags of trash stacked up. So they took a closer look through the crack and they realized that the bottom bag was not a bag. It was actually bed sheets, and that's never good. So they cut the lock with bolt cutters and they go in and they take the bags off the top of the trash can, and as they move the bags there they see a human foot sticking out of the sheet. I put pictures on for you so you can see this. The body was wrapped in these blue sheets, and as they dumped it over and they pulled the body out.

58:09 There were plastic grocery bags on the head, around the neck, around the hands, and there was a white rope still tied around her body. And it was none of the other than ninety one year old Sally Hill. They dumped her head first into a trash can. A ninety one year old woman who wouldn't and couldn't hurt anyone if she wanted to, was horrifically dumped and then covered and locked into a shed in her backyard. So this clearly wasn't natural causes, and now there's a murder to be solved.

58:55 This was not just a domestic issue over custody. Someone's dead. So police go back into the interrogation room with this information and they start asking some really pointed questions to Rosa. When they ask the question about the shed outside, have you ever been in the shed outside? There is a literal physical reaction on Rosa's part. She jumps in the chair. I mean jumps. It looks like she's been shocked with something. She jumps in the chair and her lip literally quivers like like that, and she goes, no, I didn't even know there was a shed in the backyard. I've never been back there. I don't know. I didn't know there's a shed. So obviously the police don't believe her, and now they're going to have to start building a solid case. Okay, but they don't have it yet. That's when the autopsy report would come back later on. I have to impress upon you again, she's ninety one years old. She had blunt injuries to her skin and her neck. She had brew on her right elbow, a scrape under her right arm as well as her right forearm. There was a bruise on her second knuckle of her right hand as well as the top of her hand. She had two bruises on the upper left arm, in the back of her elbow, the soft tissue around her neck. There was hemorrhages in her neck. Her larynx had been fractured, and the coroner even stated, this woman put up a fight

Four of them were on her abdomen and one was on her right arm. She had two puncture wounds in her abdomen as well, and because of the bleeding after that heating effect had been applied, they know that this was done while she was alive. So whoever killed Miss Sally tased a ninety one year old woman, beat her up, and then strangled her to death, putting bags over her face, bags over her hands, tying a rope to her, and dragging her out of the house, and dumped her in a trash can. So back at her home, the police were still searching for additional evidence after they had found her body, and they were canvassing around the area that included the neighborhood. Okay, so Deputy Mitchell Messinger or Messenger found a gray Prius that was parked across the street from the house. Okay, I know I've already been talking about an hour. I haven't even told you the crazy shit yet. Get ready. Okay, they find this gray Prius. It's parked across the street and it was several houses down from Miss Sallly's And as he walks up to the car, he just happens to look in it, and there he finds an Asian man

1:01:59 slouched down in the driver's seat like trying to hide himself. And so Mitchell's like, what are you doing? And the man doesn't answer him, so they get him out. They start asking questions and so they grab the registration of the vehicle and it was registered to a man named Ping who happened to just be Rosa's father. So he's taken into custody and they do a search of the vehicle and inside that prius they find a pink and black backpack that belongs to May. Now I know you're gonna go, honey, now belongs to May Kelly. Well, first of all, the first clue is that her own damn business cards were in it and her driver's license. Okay, so there's that. We know it's her bag. Are you ready?

They found a flashlight, a red wig pepper spray, a headlamp, as well as written direction to Selma's house Miss Sally's house. So they're like, oh my god, you know what Eric's been telling us has got to be true. He really was attacked. I mean this, what is the deal. So they're putting all of this together and that's when they find another book sack. This book sack, though, was stashed back in Miss Sally's backyard. It was underneath this green wheelbarrow. Listen to what was in this book, Sack.

I don't think you're gonna be a double wielding everything, brown rope, a master long cast fishing reel, a pride bar, twenty two caliber ammunition, a fucking crossbow, a hunting knife, a throwing star with this Asian inscription on it, a glass cutter, black handcuffs, a hammer that was still in like a sheath, gloves, a jar of camo body paint like the shit in the movies in the jungle, you know where you're like putting on body paint as well as a heavy duty lighter. That was enough.

1:04:20 I was like, what you know, like what happened in the days of like if you're kidnapping somebody, like you go and grabbing what the hell you got a crossbow for? And a fishing reel. So they're looking at this, going my god. And then if that wasn't even enough, they found another duffel bag in the back of the prius. You know what was in that a samurai sword, a samurai sword, leg irons, They had arrows, the crossbow, pepper spray, a hack saw, a camping axe, and a rubber mallet, as well as a blue coin purse with two thousand dollars in cash, and then another envelope that had another four hundred and thirty two dollars in it. So, regardless of everything we know so far, it's crystal clear that there was a very devious plan that definitely had been in place and was aimed at doing extreme harm to people.

So then after they find all this, the cops are like, cool, we're gonna get a search warrant for the for the lay home. And so they get the search warrants and it is a jackpot of of evidence and it's very telling, y'all. They found writings, okay, literal like handwritten notes, writings, one of them titled Revenge for Rosa, and do you know what it was titled above that operation Custody? Like like what operation custody? Revenge for Rosa? And in the kitchen they found all sorts of printed documents and handwritten notes, okay. And one of the printouts was information on chloroform and poisons and antidotes.

1:06:36 There were other printouts titled medications that can cause confusion in elderly people, like they targeted this old lady from the get go, and poor miss Sally never y'all, she never had a chance against these people. They zoned in on her from the get go. But why why are they wanting to go after this old lady so much? I'm going to answer that in a second, and it actually it actually matters in the story. Eric was also in a lot more danger than he would realize because police also found logs of where they had been stalking him for weeks. These logs were time stamped on all of his movements, as well as all of the vehicles that came and went from Miss Sally's house. Even they even timestamped the exact times that the garage door would open and close. It seemed like Rosa was really interested if Eric had any company or not over there as well.

And then some other handwritten notes that were found were very eye opening to the delusions that these people had. Some of the handwritten stuff, I wrote it for you so I could read it to you. They also found notes for a what was called a quote unquote revenge spell against Eric Hill, Gregory Hill, and Selma and a note that said that Eric Hill and Selma Hill are nothing but troublemakers, and they were in two different handwritings, so they know that it was both May and May and Rosa that were writing them, and it was months that this was going on. They also wrote things that said, save baby, get weapons, target prac this GPS tracking system, find a campsite. The computers at the home were searched. Their searches were kind of interesting to me, so I thought I'd share some of how to break into a house, traceless suicide, poisoned death by touch, homemade silencer, cyanide, and then most comically, punishment for murder, how to strangle someone. So results would also come back from the crime lab that the taser that was taken, one of the tasers had the DNA of Miss Sally on it as well as Rosa. So it just proved that Rosa was the one that tased Miss Sally. And there was just no doubt that this was planned, premeditated

1:09:45 and calculated killing. And at this point I'm just starting to think crazy is genetic, Okay, as I mentioned before, so why kill a ninety one year old woman? All right? This was basically the synopsis of what happened their plan to kill Miss Sally and then frame Eric for it under this guise that she supposedly she being Miss Sally, supposedly caught Eric sexually abusing their daughter, then he would kill himself in despair, and then Rosa would be able to get their daughter and wouldn't have to share her with anybody. And she also was hoping that this would prove that she was right all along on the quote unquote false report she made about Eric molesting and raping their daughter. So they had this pie in the sky idea of how they were going to kill them all and then frame each other for it, like a fucking episode of Dexter or something.
