Takedown: Chris Hansen and Sheriff Jason Ard Talk Predators with KJ

And Guys, I really wish I was in front of you literally and you are sitting with me right now, and you could see the absolute joy on my face because this week I did something that I guess I never really imagined would come true or would happen, and that I guess if you're a true crime lover and you've always been interested invested in the in the subject of true crime, that maybe you would be You're gonna be excited for me too, I think, right, because we're all friends here, but it's gonna senter around sexual predators. Okay, Now, something everything that we should all be concerned about. This is

1:38 an issue that everyone should worry about, specifically when it comes to kids, because even if you don't have your kids, guys predators, they'll they'll pick on anybody. They've got predators that prefer children, Predators that prefer old people, Predators that prefer, you know, crimes of opportunity when they can just snatch somebody. This affects everyone. You have daughters, you have sons, you have nephews and cousins, and so it always matters. I mean, hell, this is why in prison, even the damn inmates in prison who may have murdered someone, don't like sexual predators because it affects everybody. And I had the opportunity of a lifetime to sit down with the one and only Chris Hansen and discuss this very issue recently, which I'm going to share with you today, and you're going to get to hear every bit of it. Now. Before I start playing it though, I want to just point out that it's bad enough that we have adults that are preyed on by opportunists, but when it comes to children, the thought and the grooming that is involved in what these predators do is simply unconscionable. It's legitimately disturbing on a level that I think most of us can't even identify with our brains, won't even let it go there.

2:48 And this is why I've always been intrigued by the process of catching predators, diving into quote unquote their world and observing what they do as they do it. And this has always been the driving force behind the reason that I loved watching shows like to Catch a Predator. That's what was big when I was younger and really made you go, oh my god, this is real. How is this happening? People really do this? It was unbelievable. Well, Chris Hansen became a household name under this very premise, and he's somebody that I admire so much. He's dedicated majority of his professional life catching these very people that we fear, but they walk amongst us every single day.

3:36 And I absolutely loved, and I know a lot of people do because it was so famous, But loved watching him tell these men to have a seat when he would walk out and they were unsuspecting. Oh my god, these men would show up for what they thought was going to be an uninterrupted fun. I guess if that's what we're gonna call it with a young teen, and then to watch them squirm under his very direct questioning. It's just something that I just love watching people be held accountable almost instantaneously for the evil that they had shown up to do. And then of course they lie and they deflect, and the best part is that they're only met with the very direct quotes from the conversations that they were having with these kids, or who they thought were kids. They thought they were holding these conversations with minor children, but obviously was actually an adult decoy on the other end of the internet, an adult pretending to be a kid online, and these unconscionable conversations with kids and their explicit photos of their adult bodies that they had shared and sent these children just getting thrown back in their face. It's pure magic to watch it happen.

4:52 Of course, you know, once the jig is up, they always have some sort of excuse or victim blaming that's gonna follow, which I can't tell you. The anger that just it burns a fire in me that an adult could turn around and then say that it was somehow the child's fault, that what was happening you know, the kid led them to where they are today that they're blaming a teen that presumptively, if this was a real teen, is presumptively one with little to no parenting or guidance, or this is a kid that maybe has a curiosity about sex that's never been spoken about and they haven't been taught about the dangers. And that's the reality. You would think that everyone's been taught, and they haven't. I've been in schools with teenagers a long time, seventeen years, and they have not been taught the things that they need to know. I'm telling you all the while, a grown ass adult, a forty fifty year old man. And I'm saying men, not because there aren't female predators. There absolutely are, but majority of the time they're male offenders that we see this happen to on these shows, or not happened to that cause this to happen to them.

6:00 But they're grown men that are now sheepish all of a sudden want to turn around and oh, I wasn't going to do anything. I just you know, I don't know the guys. I cannot relate with you. I just can't. You got in your vehicle after you sent explicit photos to a child, a kid, someone's kid. And a lot of times these guys their parents themselves, they have children of their own, so it's okay for them to go out and abuse someone else's kid. But they're a dad, I'm a parent. Oh, this is not something I would normally do. Really, it isn't really because you drove here. Sometimes they drove states away, states away to come defile a child. It's just give me a break, that is all I can say. Give me a break. Oh, I shouldn't have done this. This is a one time thing. No, it's not. No, it's not. And these predators, y'all, they come from all walks of life, from school employees to Sonic workers to delivery people. By the way, I'm not but I'm not calling out Sonic specifically. I'm just given an example. I'm not saying that these people actually work there, but they could at restaurants, okay, all lusting for our children.

7:13 They walk around in stores and their eyes. You know, you can't stop what people see, but it makes you just wonder when you're walking through Walmart with your kids, and are they watching your child, your baby? Are they watching them with a desire for my child, for my baby. You look at that as a sex object. The fuck is wrong with you. And so now parenting has become so difficult in this age of technology. It's hard for all of us. If you're a teenager that's listening to this guys, you gotta be smart. The internet is not the place to be meeting people. These guys will, they'll come to you, and they don't strike you as this creeper that jumps out of the bushes. They look like everyday people because they are every day people, and they're lusting after these kids online, clearly having been told multiple times during these sting operations. Multiple times they have been told the underage status of this decoy, saying they're fourteen, multiple times, and the predators still take debate every single time.

8:24 These people are willing to pull up to apartment complexes, call these kids, ask them where to park, ask them where do I go, knowing the entire time they are going to take someone's child and rape. I mean, I look at it as a rape. You know, it's a ray, it's a child. They cannot consent, and you know that these people know that, and they still do it. It's unbelievable. But the reality is that this has been a successful method of catching creditors for over twenty years, for Chris Hansen.

9:04 Twenty years. That's the entire lifespan of a kid to an adult, you know, a whole generation. And we're still catching them here in twenty twenty five by doing these sting operations. And that should tell you something. They are not going to stop. This will not stop. We have got to be proactive. We have to remain proactive, and we as a society have got to remain pissed off. These kids are our kids. They're not mine, they're not yours, they're not your neighbor's daughter, They're our kids. It takes a village, it takes all of us. And this is just one snippet, one tiny piece of what it takes to protect our kids. And although this has been a form of entertainment, okay, catching those and by entertainment, I don't mean the thought of abusing a child. I mean catching those who think they are slick and they think that they're doing this under the cloak of the internet. Okay, there remains the reality of the fact that they absolutely, one hundred percent would have followed through with the sex act with the child. Had these not been sting operations, and you cannot let that go. Sometimes people go, oh, well, you know, thank god they didn't actually get to go through with anything because it was a sting. Yeah, but they would have, they would have. You know, it's just mind blowing. Some of these guys show up at these

10:37 sting operations, Oh, I'm going to do a thing, and then when they empty their pockets when they arrest them, they've got condoms, they've got lubricant. You go in their car and they've got all sorts of stuff and they want to do this to your kid. They I mean, don't sit on this. Do don't go man, that's terrible. This happens to other people because it happens to us, me and you, and something I wanted to point out, and I am going to play the interview you, but I want to point this out. There's been a lot of study about this behavior, and the truth is that these people may be sad or they may be sorry when they get caught. Okay, in the moment when you're watching them, Oh god, I shouldn't have done this. One guy, Yeah, one guy in these episodes. My mom's gonna see this. Yeah, your mom's gonna see this. She sure is. And you're upset because people are gonna find out who you really are.

11:25 You're about to disappoint everyone in your life and they should be disappointed in you. How dare you? But the studies, even though these people get sad and they're sorry when they get caught, the long term stats are not as convincing as their sob stories. And I want you to hear me on this. I looked at two different studies. I didn't go in depth and pull a whole bunch of them because this is not you know, this isn't a college lecture, but I do want to tell you this. One of them that I looked at said they're finding showed forty two percent of the offenders that they've followed after release were reconvicted for sexual crimes, violent crimes, or both.

12:09 So that should tell you that these guys are very capable of violence alongside of being an absolute pervert. That is scary to me. Another one I looked at they followed two hundred and fifty one sex offenders, which to me is just mind blowing that we can have two hundred and fifty one sex offenders. But hell, if you go search sex offenders in your area, guys and every sheriff's department a nationwide there should have a place where you can go search and see the sex offenders in your areas. Matter of fact, I want to challenge you go to your local sheriff's office website wherever you live. For example, if you live near me Livingston Parashriff's office, I believe it's dot org. But you go to Livingston Para Sheriff's Office and then there's a place on there that says sex offenders. Click on that you can put your home address in and then click search and it'll show you all the sex offenders around you. Yes, this is an absolute true story. Yesterday, from the date that I am filming this, my husband and I we had the kids in the car. We were heading down to go somewhere and I saw this guy walking down the road right outside of my neighborhood by the way, and I turned around and I looked at him and I said sex offender. I told my husband, I said that is a sex offender, and he kind of looked at me like Okay, I said, no, I'm telling you. And the reason I know is because I teach this every single year, and I know his face like the back of my hand. And about five years ago, a friend of mine in my neighborhood messaged me while she was in a local walmart right next to where we live, and she said, this guy seems to be following my son.

13:37 She said, I'm like noticing it. It's weird. And I said, well, send me a picture. She sent me a picture of him. I said, oh, my god, that's him. He stands out like a sore thumb because he has bright red hair and a bright red mustache. They're everywhere. They are everywhere. They are walking in your neighborhoods, they're walking their dogs. Y'all pay attention, be proactive. Talk to your kids about it. Show them where they live, of show them, tell them don't ever go near this house. But they followed. In this study, two hundred and fifty one sex offenders, one hundred and thirty six of them were rapists and one hundred and fifteen of them were child molesters, and they followed them. They were discharged from prison over a twenty five year period. Twenty five years and the findings of their study showed that both rapists and child molesters. Both of them remain at a very substantial risk of reoffending even long after their release. In some of the cases they followed, these sex offenders reoffended fifteen to twenty years later, but they still reoffended. And something that they stated very clearly too, was that overall, they said they were honest in the study, overall, there was a very large underestimation of how many they belie would reoffend based on the factors at hand. Even the people studying it underestimated how many of them would reoffend. That should tell you a

15:08 lot about the risk we take when these people are loose in our society. Do you want to take that risk of this person near you or your children? Because I don't. That said, another huge issue that we are facing this country today is blackmail via the internet, and they focus on young people and guys. If you're listening, let your kids listen to this episode. Let them listen to it if you feel comfortable. If you feel so led, maybe you listen to it first. But I want to tell you something. This is happening more and more and more, and I'm going to tell you a quick story about a case in my parish. And by the way, I knew this offender personally, as in I'm not going to disclose how I know them just for there's a lot of reasons why. But I would have never The age this offender is the issue. The offender is eighteen, Okay, So I knew this offender personally. I spent a lot of time with this offender in the capacity of the role that I was in, and I would have never guessed this in a million years, which is a common thing about these predators. And that's what we have to let our kids know. It's people that you know, it's people that you spend day in and day out with.

16:25 Matter of fact, one of the predators, real quick, I know, I'm flashing sideways. One of the predators in this show I'm going to tell you about at the end with Chris Hansen, my next door neighbor, worked with him. His jaw hit the floor. He said, we couldn't believe it. That's how common this is. But this, this predator that I'm talking about, was an eighteen year old male and what he would do was he was making friends online via Snapchat and other apps with young boys and girls, and he would talk normally with them. Okay, he would be a bit forward in some of the conversations, but all the while just being friendly and joking and but showing interest, you know, like people do young people on on Snapchat do, but lowering their guard just minute by minute because oh he's so funny, he's so normal, he's so whatever. And of course it would it would delve into sexual stuff, and he would ask for nudes or other explicit material. And if his victim said no, you would think that that would shut it down. That's where you're wrong, hear me out heed what I'm telling you.

17:34 If the child said no, this is where it got extremely devious. He had focused on kids and young teens so that he could see their locations one Snapchat, because that's what teenagers do. They show their location so they can and they want to see where other people are. And that's the downfall. Parents want to be able to see their kids, but they've got to ghost everybody else as far as what their location is. Because what this guy would do is see their location on Snapchat. He would see where they lived, screen shot it, go oh hey what are you doing? Oh I'm at home right while they're whatever, and once he realizes they're at home, get that location, screen shot it, and then send it to them and say, you send me the pictures or I'm gonna come kill your entire family. Sometimes they never even sent the pictures, but they still now were scared out of their minds and they're wrapped up in a situation that they cannot explain to their parents. They don't know how it got here, and they maybe shouldn't have been saying some of the stuff they were saying with this stranger online. But now they're caught, and now they see, oh my god, this person knows where I live, and if I don't send these photographs, they're gonna come kill my family. And they feel alone, and we have to tell our kids you're never alone. You are never alone.

18:51 You messed up, sure, but you are not alone. So obviously, these kids in these situations feel like they have to comply, and I think that's just something that we're lacking in. We've got to tell our kids, Look, you screw up, okay, but don't you ever feel alone, because you're not. And I'm here with you. I just saw yesterday on TikTok. You know how we all mindlessly scroll I just saw yesterday on TikTok TikTok a representative speaking out. I don't remember who he was or whatever. I just remember being drawn in by the story. But his own son had been victimized by this very tactic and he committed suicide. His son committed suicide because he felt like he was alone and he was embarrassed and he was scared. And this is places like Nigeria. This predator, if I remember correctly, was in Nigeria. They know no bounds. They will extort, they will blackmail, they will do whatever it takes to get these images so that they can sell them online or they can make money. And that's why today I am just beyond proud to share with you my interview with mister Chris Hansen himself. Also Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard worked alongside him and they did some catching predators in my area and it's an eye opening experience to say the least. And then I've got Sheriff Jason Ard with me as well, which everyone knows has been a huge supporter of me throughout the years, everything from doing all the training for me whenever I became commissioned with the Sheriff's office, through education because I've been a teach year as we all know, for many many years. 23:17 Just keep it up, yes, sir. I will now recently y'all got together and y'all did a sting operation to try to catch some predators correct. Oh, we sure did. Yeah, And in the course of three days working with Sheriff Hard and his incredible team here, we caught eleven men trying to sexually exploit children, some here from this parish and some who traveled long distances to get. Here just the time to come in and drive specifically for the purpose of underaged children, which you were so good. I watched the episode online and True Blue correct. 24:05 Yeah, lots of seasons. It was like twelve seasons, I believe. When I went and I watched, and something that struck me and this is coming from my mama's heart. On the intro of the video from our local from our parish, the first thing that comes in if you go watch this, and I want you all to get my listeners, go watch this episode. But there were some pink slippers excuse me, white slippers with a pink bow on them on the floor as it panned into the setup. And my daughter has those very same slippers. So from the get go. I'm thinking, my god, these could be my kids. That's the shoes, you know, And so it really drew me in and I got to thinking about what my day is like day to day. So I want to point this out real quick, and you tell me what you think.

24:46 So my day starts with the fact that I get up in the morning and I go and I teach criminal justice to students. And then I go in the lunch room where I get lunch and it served to me by the wonderful cafeteria workers that are there. And then after school, I jump in my car, I go swing by Sonic and I get me a ice cold slushy I like the strawberry slushie. Before I go to the podcast studio to go podcast with Gym. And while I'm there, I'm usually working on my phone and I'll text my daughters and I'll say, hey, can y'all pick up the packages that were delivered on the front porch so that you know nobody steals them? And then I come home and we have dinner and it's just like a normal day. And the reason I point that out is because I looked at the list of predators that you caught over the sting time. One of them was a school food worker, one of them was going to school for criminal justice. One of them was a lawn care worker, which we have lawn people that come by and take care of our yard. One of them was a distributor and delivered drinks and.

25:53 You know, in contact with people every day. Every single day. One of them was a delivery man. And so I'm looking at in people's homes and I'm thinking about the fact that this is my life. This is not this is not just those people. It's not television. It's on television, but this is life. This is real life. And if we weren't there, if Sheriff Ourd's team wasn't there, and if we weren't there, what do you think would have happened to a fourteen or fifteen year old child home alone? Exactly what the predator I watched said. He wanted to take her virginity. And I'm gonna tell you now, as a mama, I know you can feel the fire coming from your right here, as it should be. But as a mama and I have a good husband, that man might not make it outside that doorway. If we walked inside, he probably wouldn't so the fact that someone would write all of that to a kid, to a teen, with this explicit purpose of taking her virginity, the one most precious thing to me for a little girl to have, infuriates me.

26:55 Well, and you have kids online who are curious, and especially if this child is from a vulnerable setting, right, maybe that child doesn't have both parents, doesn't have kJ or Sheriff Jason Hard as a parent. Or a father figure in their household. Feature exactly, So they're curious and they want to know. And you know, we used to say when I was growing up, don't talk to strangers. Good advice, then good advice. Now the problem now is that the guy who's a stranger on Wednesday isn't a stranger by Friday, after he's been grooming this child and breaking down the defenses in our society and the hone in right, Sheriff.

27:37 It's it's it's very sickening. And I actually said something in a podcast about my daddy Posse. I think I need to start a mommy posse too, and just let y'all take care of these predators because they're everywhere, they really are, and it's just we just like you were, you were reading or saying wanago about your what you do every day? We all do that. We have lives, right we I go to work every day. I run a whole office every day. And I assume now my kids are older, but I assume when they were younger they were fine. But they have something in their hands. They're they're gaming, They're they're in these chat rooms every day all day. And we have had cases even with the social media with a snapchat with these kids have their location turned on because Mamma and day won't see where they at, but they don't take the time to make sure no one else can see them. It's such a scary world. And uh, when when Chris and Chris and I got together we set up this operation. Listening to them interviewing these these predators and watching this whole thing go down, it just makes you realize even more.

28:41 And I see everything, but it realizes even more today. It's it's it's so real. It's out there, and it's just challenge for parents to stay on top of this. But we have to do our part. And I think that something parents need to know is that this connectivity that we have, this constant bombardment with images allows people to view not just pornography, consenting adult pornography, but child pornography, illegal material. And these people, who already have a propensity for this, have a never ending flow of this child abusive material like a drug addict, Like a drug addict. And so at some point looking at this, viewing these images isn't going to fulfill the fantasy. They are going to cross the threshold from fantasy to reality.

29:34 And that's when we see them show up at our stainghouse. And how many and how long did it take with three of them? And within an hour of the first chat, they were knocking on the door within an hour. And then I'll tell you this, what really got me going too is that, oh wait, say for me real quick. You asked them to what, have a seat? Have a seat? Oh, Chris Hansen just said, have a seat in front of caj y'all. I'm dying right now inside. Okay, But you get to talking to them, and something I noticed is that you know they want to all of a sudden turn sheepish whenever a man walks in that can check them on what they're doing or trying to do. But then the instant victim blaming, instant oh, she texted me to come over. Oh uh, she I thought me up.

30:16 She set me up. Oh I thought that she was older than she said she was. Why was that your first statement out of the box. Why would that even be a statement if you didn't come here with the intent. These men and the sheriff will tell you this because this is a very strict protocol. These men aren't even given the address until it has made clear several times in the online chat that the men are talking to a child. It has to be confirmed. They won't even let these guys come over. They don't even know where the operation is until that is verified. And she said she was fourteen multiple multiple times times. And how many kids do you think lie about their age to get on various social media?

30:56 All of them? And these aren't always these dark, dirty, hard to access social media platform We see this stuff happening on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit. You know it's not the dark web here. These are easily accessible platforms. So this was a question I wanted to ask you are there and this is just opinion, obviously, but because of this and how kids have access to things that maybe they shouldn't but the ease of it, are there any laws that you would like to see changed or that you think need adjusting in terms of social media access and age. Well, I think there needs to be parental consent for children of a certain age to get on these platforms. Now, having said that that law is great, I'm sure the sheriff would back it up. However, the best defense, right, We've been doing these investigations for twenty years. When I first did them, all we did was use decoys in chatrooms and Aol and Yahoo and maybe something if you were call called MySpace. I do, right, that's it. Well, today the number of social media platforms has exploded, and so we can confront these guys. We can expose them.

32:11 The sheriff's team can arrest them, the prosecutors can put them in prison. But it's not going to stop. Twenty years we've been doing this. I thought we'd do it two or three times and that would be it. You know, still today I joke that if this stops, I can finally go do that cooking show I want in Italy, or maybe do a Southern cooking show with the sheriff here and let me send pa. Well, I'll tell you this too, an personal experience that just backs up that it's not going to stop. I teach a lot of children, some from vulnerable situations, more vulnerable than others, and I was in class one day. I actually use the Sheriff's website and I have all the kids go to the sex offender website. I have them put their address in, which, by the way, my listeners, you should be able to go in and see any of these convicted sex offenders in your area. But I use your website. We go in, I show them how to search their area, and they're always dumbfounded by the sheer numbers of these sexIf.

33:00 Well, that's the point. So no matter what we do, what the sheriff does in law enforcement, what I do to expose these people and to educate folks and create a dialogue, the best defense remains the relationship that parents have with their children. You have to have this discussion. We have a documentary that's almost finished about sextortion where khnman from half a world away poses young girls and they convince boys to send them explicit pictures and then they blackmail them. And these kids are committing suicide because the shame of it. After they give as much money as they possibly can Finally, now law enforcement is dragging these guys back to the US to face as they should penalties. Yeah. But my point is if these kids just knew, all right, knucklehead, you did something stupid, But in two weeks, nobody's going to care. Graham's not going to see your junk on Facebook?

33:53 Right, is she changed your diapers. The moment, right, But they get caught in the moment. Get through the moment. And if you do something stupid, if you get lured into a conversation with somebody who makes you feel uncomfortable, come talk to me. Yeah, I'll call the sheriff Westen again. I guarantee you. We'll listen what happened. We did that exercise to teach them how to do it well. Then I made them do a PowerPoint on pick a sex offender of each tier Tier one, two, and three, and it was, you know, an interactive type thing where they would stand up and explain it well. One student who came from a very bad background, I saw the blood kind of drain from her face during one of the presentations that someone was doing, and I said, are you okay? Do you feel okay? She's like, I'm okay. Can I speak to you outside.

34:34 I said, sure, we walk outside. She whipped her cell phone out, which they could have at the time, and she showed me the guy on the screen in our class was the guy that she was quote unquote talking to and had sent her explicit photos and knew that she was under age, but she did not know how old he was, not that they should have been sharing the photos, but he was in his twenties and he had told her that he was seventeen. And it was right there in class that it brought it to her attention. So it takes a community. You know, if kids aren't going to listen to their parents, maybe when they go to school. We have to build these relationships everywhere. Because the predators don't listen. We had a case a guy who showed up in this sting who made the local news in Baton Rouge because, as an eighteen year old high school student, he took a video of a fourteen year old girl, also a student, performing a sax act on him. He got in trouble, but because of his age, he got a break. Where does he show up five years later in our sting in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, trying to hook up with another child.

35:38 Or not tell you was that tell you they're not going to stop. And I think a lot of these guys, I'll tell I'm just going to say to think a lot of them are rapists in the making. I think that the longer we slap them on the wrist and say Okay, well it didn't go through with it or something like that, they're just going to escalate and escalate and escalate until we have. The video you know, blocked out made the local news five years ago, and now he's going to make the news again when that episode of Down with Chris Hansen airs. I'm so thankful that you did it. I'm glad that y'all teamed up and you work together. He admitted to me, yes it is, and to your detectives that he just threw his life away by doing something stupid. Well, don't do it right. They've got a break. I don't think they can stop. And that's why I really don't.

36:18 I don't think they can. Well, recidivism rates back that up too with sex offenders that they're not going to be rehabilitated. And we don't typically, you know, entertain even exposing somebody who's seventeen trying to hook up with somebody who's fourteen or fifteen or eighteen. If they're all students, that's another issue. That's an issue for the juvenile courts and consulars. But when they're nineteen or older and they're trying to hook up with a child, what's the difference between the damage and nineteen year old man can cause In a thirty nine year old man, it's the same damage, exact damage. You know. Now, maybe that younger guy can be rehabilitated, can get therapy, can get counseling, can get on the right path. There's a better chance of it than the thirty nine year olds, but it's still a danger.
