Hey, y'all, Kelly Jenning's back here for another episode of Unspeakable. How are you doing? I cannot even express to you how excited I am for this episode. I originally was gonna release this for Father's Day, but I didn't because I took too long and I would probably be late to my own funeral, if I'm being honest. So, but it's here now, and so hey, you're gonna get it. So an old stress about it, But I literally am so tickled to finally get to tell this story on my own terms, on my own podcast, and I grew up with it right. But before I started, I gotta tell y'all something I was watching the news the other day, and have y'all seen this story about oracle whales and how they are biting off propellers of boats and you'll like, tell you why are you talking about orcas?

They believe that there's a female leader of this orca vigilante group, okay, and they think she got hurt by a propeller and she is now amassed an army of other orcas and she is training them to bite the moving propellers off of boats and sinking them. Like this girl has had enough and like her name is like Deborah or something, and Deborah the orca is out there sleighing boats. Okay, why am I telling you this? Well? Number one, it was like, holy crap, what which is like my episode today? Because I don't know if you've ever heard of Gary Ploche, But dude takes parenting to another level. Okay, But he didn't have to amass a group to come help him do it. He just handled his own business. So let's jump into this one, okay, y'all. Gary Ploche the most epic story probably of my childhood, because this takes place in Baton Rouge in nineteen eighty four, which was the year of my birth. I know y'all are just all excited, but I was born in nineteen eighty four when this happened. And this case is proof that even though it a long time ago, right like thirty forty years, but it's legendary around these parts okay where I live, it is absolutely legendary. And you'll see why once we get to it. But Gary Ploche is the man that this story is about. But before I get into the nitty gritty, I want to formally introduce you to mister Gary. Now he's obviously not going

3:21 to be here in studio with me because it's just me, myself and I but I want you to know who he was, right, who was mister Gary Ploche, And to me, it matters in understanding how this entire story came to be. It's not just the simple tidbits that you can find here and there in just a quick news article, right, so get into it. Gary Ploche was in his thirties okay when this story is really gonna take place. But he was always described by everyone who knew him as the life of the party. And we all know somebody like that right as soon as they walk in the lights go off, it's like, all right, the good time is here, the fun time is here, and you know it's about to it good. And you know he loved to cook, He loved to entertain and have people over. He was a I mean, he loved the LSU Tigers. He was a Tiger fan through and through. And if you know anything about South Louisiana on a Saturday night, we are a drinking town with a football problem. We love our baseball, our football, all of our sports. And you wear purple and gold where we come from.

4:23 Well that was Gary Ploche and this had always really been his personality, bigger than life type stuff, even when he was a kid. His mom said that he was a handful a matter of fact, when he was in school, his teacher even told him, look, if you would just behave, literally, I'll give you an A. If you can just calm down and behave, I'll give you an A. And as luck would have it, he got to see that's a true story, right. He just was a wild man. He was an amazing athlete in his younger years, and his focus was really in track and he was an all star sprinter whenever he was younger and He even held the record in the fifty yard dash, but not so much in the hundred yard dash because, as he would put it, his cigarette lungs would start kicking in, right, So he liked to compete.

5:13 He was a man's man, and he'd smoked him a sugar atte her twenty right whenever he was wanting to relax. So he was an animal lover. He was an amazing, likable guy. And everyone who knew him, seriously, it doesn't matter where you look or who you talk to. Everyone knew him in town, and everyone says that he was just the biggest personality. You loved being with him, and you were better for it. With all the stories and all the people he knew and all the adventures that he went on. And while I never personally met him, y'all, I never did, I'd like to think that he and I would have gotten along. I really do. Everything about him screams a good time. And even better than that, he had a good heart. He was giving, he was kind, he was loving, and and just y'all, that that guy, you know what I mean, Just that guy you wanted to go to the tailgates with and kick back A Bruski or two and just watch sports and have a good time. So as he got older, right, he did meet his wife. Her name was June, and they met while she was singing at a nightclub and they would get married shortly thereafter in nineteen sixty nine.

6:23 Now four kids would eventually be shared by the couple, and their names were Gary, Jody, Mikey, and Sissy. So little Gary aka Bubba was born in nineteen seventy when mister Gary was still a medic in the Air Force and he was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. Well about that time, Gary Dad Gary, his drinking really escalated and he seemed to be gone more than usual, and it had kind of started taking a toll on June, and she really was contemplating leaving him, if we're going to be honest. So the marriage began to suffer, but June became pregnant with their second son, named Jody, and the family moved to Baton Rouge around that time. And the truth was, honestly, that June couldn't support two kids on her own, so she stayed in the marriage. And I know, we know a lot of people that have done that. You know, maybe they weren't one hundred percent happy. They wanted, they want it out, but it just wasn't conducive financially to their position they were in. So Gary gets a new job at probably not the best place he could have picked, because it was a wholesale liquor store, and that didn't help because Gary would get wasted every night right because he had access to the liquor. So more time would pass and life just kind of went on and the last two children of the Plochet marriage were born. And I don't want to get it twisted though. There wasn't a lack of love y'all in this household while there. While Gary probably

7:57 wouldn't doing the best he could husband wise in terms of day and sober, there was not a lack of love. There was just a lack of control on Gary's part of his drinking. And the more I learned about him, and the more I talked to people that know him, I don't get the feeling that he was doing it on purpose. I don't think that he set out to neglect June. I don't think that his goal was to be out, you know, like partying and clubbing or anything like that. He just got wrapped up in his Shenanigans a little too often, right, he would get going and he just couldn't, you know, like hold up. He kept drinking once he started, and it got out of control. But by nineteen eighty three, June had had enough and she did formally ask Gary to leave the household eleven years into their marriage. Now, June was frustrated with Gary's drinking. But Gary kind of had a reason for why he was doing it, and I don't mean in a victim way or like, oh, he was trying to drink away his sorrows. It actually was part of his job because he would often take clients out for his sales job that they had that he had, and they would go have lunch at places that also served drinks. And one of those places that Gary loved to go was called the Cotton Club. And you know, Gary would usually partake in the party, which left June having to take care of the kids and even having to go sometimes to drive and pick him up after he drank a little too much.

9:20 And it just got to be a little too often for June's liking. But Gary was a good man and he was a good father to his kids. If you ask his kids today, he was at every ball game that they played. He coached almost everything that the kids played, and his full identity was really wrapped up and being his kid's daddy. He lived for them. He loved June. He just as far as marriage went, couldn't seem to get on the same page, you know, with June on what the terms of the marriage you know, were about. The June and Gary were even f to one another by all accounts, but anyone could understand how the frustration can snowball, even between two loving people whenever it's not going as one would plan. So as such, like I told you, June did ask Gary to leave. And when this case kind of picks up, that's where they were. It had been about nine months and the kids at this point and Gary had been separated for nine months, and the kids ages were as follows.

10:28 There was Bubba who was thirteen, Jody who was eleven, Mikey who was eight, and then the youngest little sister, Sissy, and she was seven. So the agreement that they had come up with was that the kids would see their dad every other weekend. And while this sounds like the typical agreement, you know, per se, it was killing Gary on the inside. He loved his family. He loved his kids more than life itself, and he had moved back in with his own parents, but he desperately wanted the normal see of his family life back. While this wasn't happening at the moment, Gary would still be the father of his kids and be the dad that they needed. He was there, okay. He did not abandon his kids, and one thing that they really bonded over was sports. I mean sports was a strong bond between Gary and his kids. The oldest two boys were always really, really really athletic, so Bubba and Jodi were out the box talented in sports. Now younger brother, Mikey would struggle not only athletically but also academically, and so he wasn't on the same level we would, you know, per se as his brothers. But eventually he would actually find something that he was good at and it would be pole vaulting. And pole vaulting that's kind of hard y'all. Like, pole vaulting is literally the sport for people who are like reckless mentality, you know, like living with wild abandoned. Have you ever watched a friggin pole vaulter who came up with the

12:00 idea to just I'm gonna run with this massively long stick and then put all my weight on it and let it bend and then fling me over another pole. Who came up with that probably the same guy who looked at a crawfish and was like, I'm about to suck the butt of this crawfish and see what it taste like. Let me boil it first, all right. But luckily for Mikey, you know, that was kind of his approach to everything. According to his brothers, he did everything driving cars and living life one mile at a time. Mikey was adventurous and daring, and he would end up actually leading the district and become a pole vaulting champion in nineteen ninety three. So just because he struggled a bit doesn't mean he didn't have that same athletic inclination as his brothers. And it's kind of funny, but when you know Jody describes his brother pole vaulting, it's like almost comical because he says, my brother had like no recognizable form or technique. It was just balls to the wall going for it. And he even described it as a mixteen like a dancer in the air and a taser victim while he was flying through the air. He just did whatever he had to do to get over the bar. But he had a heart of a champion, just like his dad Gary. He wanted to win and he did it. A little bit about Sissy, Now, she was the baby of the family, and you know she was pampered as such. She was the little girl, but she was tough, so like, don't get it twisted. Sissy held her own and according to her brothers, wants her temper flare. She gonna fight like a man like Sissy and Sissy don't play. She had three older brothers, and

13:31 honestly, I ain't mad at it. I mean, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Somebody get crazy, all right, A matter of fact, this cracked me up. I have to share this story with y'all. It's kind of freaking hilarious. Um. But there's this place called Callaway's in Baton Rouge. It's a it's a health club, all right, and a woman who you all may recognize her name. Her name was Stormy Daniels. Yes, the same heifer who alleged Lee had an affair with President Trump. You remember that name? Stormy Daniels. Well, one day, Stormy Daniels threw a smoothie at Sissy's face at the Callaway Club in Baton Rouge, and Sissy did what any good Southern woman would do, any Southern woman worth her salt would do. She whooped her ass. I thought that was regul hilarious. You go, Sissy, if you're listening to this, whoop her ass, don't be thrown smoothies in people's face. Shoot. Anyway, let's go back to Bubba and Jody. All right, So Bubba and Jody, remember they're the two oldest brothers. They both got a flyer about karate classes at school and they both immediately wanted to try it. And everything I read and found out, you know, Jody and them, they did sports like they did soccer, baseball, basketball, They were all in on playing sports, but karate was new and they wanted to try it. And as luck would have it, there's a con man around every corner, and the man that put out the flyers would end up taking their parents' money, but

15:05 would run off and never give one class to the boys after they signed up. So the parents really got screwed on this one. But another karate instructor. Instructor who heard about the mistreatment of the kids and how they didn't get their classes showed up and said he would be willing to finish the lessons that had been paid for. Like awesome, right, he stepped up for the kids, and his name was Jeff Ducett. Now, something that really caught the boy's attention was that Jeff mentioned fight teams that would travel and compete around the state. That really tickled their fancy. And I'm kind of like we where Sissy at Tell Cissy get up in there, she can hold her own.

15:46 Now, Jeff was a really likable guy. He spent quality time with the kids, and he spent time teaching them how to be tough. And I don't just mean physically, I mean mentally tough, right, And you know, I even enrolled my own kids in karate because I have girls, and I wanted the girls to learn about restraint but also be dangerous, you know, learn how to defend yourself, but know when and how and where to use it. And I think karate is a great tool for kids to learn about respect and following commands. And this really sounded good to the boys. And Jeff would even bring not only the kids but their families out for team building, so they would go do things like eat pizza, you know, go hang out, and Jeff was able to build community with the kids and the team mentality was really solidified in this. It was like a master and his proteges were working their butts off, and Jodi and Bubba wanted to fight in these tournaments they'd heard about, so they would practice often, but they would relax as well, and as time passed, Jody really excelled at it. That's the second son, eleven year old Jodie. Now understand this.

16:59 The Plochees aren't people that would just let their kids go anywhere with anyone. They were very protective of their precious children. I mean very protective, so in tune with their safety that they even had a family member who was in law enforcement that they would call quote unquote the disaster captain because anytime something went wrong, he was the one, you know, the family would turn to. But they even had him go run Jeff's name for any criminal record, which all came back clear except for some traffic tickets. But I mean, like, who doesn't, right, I'm not saying I do, but maybe I do. Maybe I don't. Okay, I speed sometimes, jem geez quite looking at me crazy, Okay, but I'm just in a hurry to do something awesome. Jeez. But they didn't just let the kids run off with Jeff. They kind of vetted him and they wanted to make sure that this guy was worthy of their children's time. And I think that was awesome. It turns out, just say, you know that speed limits when it comes to like traffic tickets are not suggestion, according to a very astute judge I once saw in high school for a traffic ticket. I thought that was the funniest thing I've ever heard. Miss Kelly. You know, speed limits are to be followed, They're not suggestions. And that really like kind of hurt my heart a little bit. I was like, oh my god.

So as the families of the karate students became more comfortable with Jeff because remembers a lot of kids, he would take them out to have fun to places like Chuck E Cheese and the movies and bowling and stuff like that, which, by the way, I just learned this. I always thought it was Chuck E Cheese like when we would go play there, But it's actually Chuck E cheese, and the E is actually a middle initial which stands for drum roll entertainment. If you did not know that, Chuck entertainment cheese. So if you ever use that useless knowledge on Jeopardy or something, I want my cut. Okay, you're welcome Chucky cheese. All right. So a little bit about Jeff's background, because I don't think I've really told you enough about him. He was born February third, nineteen fifty nine to Hayward and Elia Dusett, and he had a lot of siblings. So he had three older brothers, Sam, Roland, and Mike. And fun fact, if you're not from around here, you wouldn't know this, but Roland Dusett became a very prominent radio personality here in Baton Rouge, and he just recently retired, but he was a beloved staple of the radio community on Roland's Rock in Cajun Show. But I grew up listening to that. It's just so crazy how small the world is, you know. But Jeff's father died when he was a teenager, and you know, according to the family, they were kind of raised on the wrong side of the tracks in Port Arthur, Texas. I also read somewhere that he had a sister who died from a rattles rattlesnake by you, but I couldn't really confirm that. But

19:48 hey, I'm throwing it out there, you know, sorry for your loss, Jeff, if that's true. All right now. His sister's names were Nelda and Carline, and the stories that kind of came out of their mouths were kind of sad. Like one time, for example, Carline told Jody's mother that her mother used to whore her out at a local like area to the degenerates, and she actually ended up getting pregnant at thirteen and had a baby at fourteen. And one of their brothers also did some time at Angola, you know, the all male maximum security penitentiary that I myself worked at.

20:29 And this means that he did something serious. All that means like armed robbery, rape, murder, because back then, only serious felonies and habitual offenders you know, were there back in the day. I know things have changed now, but you know, needless to say, it didn't seem like Jeff's home life was all roses, but he had established himself in the Ploche family as a friend, and the kids at the karate place loved him. Gary the dad was even glad that Jeff was there when he couldn't be because he felt like he gave the kids a strong role model whenever, you know, he wasn't there. June Ploche found him charming and she thought he was a good friend. And Jeff would over time literally become like family to the Ploches. He would even come over on the weekends to hang out with everybody.

21:15 So it wasn't like they just saw him at the karate what is it dojo, They would see him on the weekends. He was family. He was like, you know, uncle Jeff really and the Ploche family had this thing and I thought it was kind of cool. But they would play games on the weekend. It was like their tradition, and the ants and the uncles would all come over and they would play games all night, and eventually, you know, everyone would spend the night there. Jeff was invited and he would join in regularly. I mean he would even stay the night. It was just eat, drink, have fun, play games and a lot of family fun. So Jeff continued, you know, to build trust with everyone, and he even moved the karate classes closer to the Ploche home, and the classes started to run longer. Okay, he was really investing in the kids. And since they would run longer, Jeff would also offer rides home for the kids. And y'all, this was so helpful. Think about it. You're a parent, June Is. I'm not going to say a single parent, but she's separated and she's trying to raise her family. And when you've got someone that can go pick up the kids and bring them home and you trust them and that's your family friend, well that's a huge help.

22:19 As a mama of three and we are all over the place right with practices, I could see how this would be just one less stressor that, you know, two of her kids could get dropped off back at the house. Even more fun, though, is that Jeff would let the kids drive his car. Right now, I don't mean off on their own. Come on, he had a standard and he would let them sit in his lap and then with his help, the kids would steer while Jeff worked the clutch and the break. And of course, you know, Jeff's hands accidentally grazed their private parts sometimes, but that's just I mean, he had to move his hands around right when they were driving, and he had to put his hand somewhere right. So sure it was uncomfortable sometimes, but it wasn't a big deal or anything. It was so much fun they were getting to drive the car. In March of nineteen eighty three, Jeff invited all of the kids to a karate tournament in Houston to watch the fighters fight. They were so excited about this, right, the kids thought it was great, but the parents really wanted to discuss it. So all of the parents of the karate kids got together and they discussed whether they were going to let the kids go or not. You know, they were weighing the pros and cons and should they let the kids go, and ultimately they all agreed, Look, we trust Jeff. He's going to take care of the kids. He loves them, he's invested in them, and so they did let the kids go.

23:45 Now, Jody unfortunately didn't get to go because he had a basketball tournament and Jody loved basketball. He wanted to play and he wanted to compete. But the other Ploche brothers did go, and when they came back, they were like going off about all the fun wild things that happened. While they were on the trip. They talked about pillow fights and one kid even was sneaking like skull, you know, a dip in his mouth, and you know, it's just so funny. Like the kids thought that was the greatest thing ever and it sounded so much fun Gary even said, look, I want to go next time. I'd love to go with the kids. You know, we can take them to the next tournament. Well, in eighty three, April of eighty three, the karate team and Jeff would go to Houston for a tournament and Jody was going to fight like a main fight, and Gary went with him. This time Dad went, and y'all they had a great time. Jody took second place, and as any kid, you know, dang it, he was kind of disappointed that he took second, but he did a great job. Again, he was a great fighter.

24:51 And after you know, the competition was over, they all went to go watch the Black Belts fight, but Jody was super excited about something else. He wanted to go watch the Astros play instead. Now, just so you know, current Astros has Alex Peregman and Breggie Pooh is my boo. He played for the LSU Tigers by the way, So I get it, I get it. The Astros you want to go see him, right, okay, but he really wanted to go. But it was kind of strange because Jeff got really mad at Jody for wanting to leave the karate fight and go see the Astros play, and Jody, you know, was kind of annoyed by like, why are you so mad? Bro chill out? But I mean, after all, Jody was the best fighter, and Jeff kept saying he wanted him to stay and I want you to watch the fights, but Jody was like, I mean, he bitched so much at mean, he started to make me feel bad, Like good lord. So afterwards, after all that was over, they went ice skating at the Galleria and they just continued to have a blast. I mean, it was just a good trip.

25:53 And by the end of the day they get back to the hotel and the sleeping arrangements were something that a mom probably would be like wtf, you know, but to a group of men, I guess that seemed logical. Right. They all decided they were all going to cram into one room. So there was Gary, Jeff, and a couple of kids in this room. So Gary slept in one bed with some of the kids, and then Jeff slept in the other bed with some of the other kids, including Jody. Now, if you have kids in the car or something like that, this is probably isn't a time for them to be listening. I'll give you a second. You might want to go ahead and pause it, but this might not be for them, Okay. So you can imagine, y'all, they've been fighting at the tournament, and they watched the tournament go on, then they went and had fun and ice skating, and it's the end of the day and they are exhausted, and that's when everybody got in bed.

26:53 The lights went out, and everybody kind of zonked out. And the beds, you can imagine they're pretty cramped, right, because you got a grown man and some kids in the bids. And Jody got pretty aggravated as he was sleeping because Jeff kept accidentally rubbing against him, and he kept accidentally rubbing against his private parts. And you know, Jody obviously thought this was an accident, because I mean, why would a grown man be touching a kid? Right? And I guess you want to chalk it up to a combination of embarrassment and aggravation. Jody pretended to be asleep because he just wanted to avoid any misunderstanding, right, because Jeff's asleep and it's just frustrating. They wake up. The next day, they went to Astro World and they had a blast, but Jody says he got soaking wet. A lot of them did right while they were an Astro World, and Jody's shorts became see through because they got wet, and it was funny, and Jeff kept commenting and laughing about his sea through shorts, and then he just kept going on about Jody's quote unquote frozen ass because Jody was cold and he could see through his shorts. So they make it home. Trip was good. Moving on the following weekend, all of the karate teams went crawfishing to have a self caught boil, meaning like all the kids in that one karate school, and the goal was basically that the kids were going to be catching their dinner. And

28:25 again they all went out and they spent the day crawfishing with Jeff, and again they stayed in a hotel that night, and again Jeff would bunk with Jody in the bed. This time, though, Jeff aggressively started rubbing Jody under the covers. He did it so much, in fact, that Jody's privates were rubbed raw. Now you gotta imagine, y'all, he's a ten eleven year old boy and he's not understanding why or exactly what's happening. So again, to avoid any type of misunderstanding and the embarrassment of it, Jody pretended to be asleep. But he couldn't ignore it, and he eventually got mad. He was hurt. And at this point Jody formally realizes that this is not an accident, and I think this is being done on purpose.

29:26 The amazing thing is dy and this is such a lesson to parents. Okay, Jody's parents had always been proactive about right and wrong touch with him. This was not a kid who had never had this discussion before. His mother took the time out to explain that there are perverts out there and that no adult should ever touch you in that way. However, when you're an eleven year old boy, it's not as clear cut right in your mind. Because Jeff is a friend, He's not at that scary stranger that's jumping out of the bushes, that wants to hurt me, and so the confusion there is huge. Jody wanted to tell someone and I can so identify with what I'm about to say as a kid, but he didn't want to disrupt the family anymore than it already was. Remember, his parents are split up, and he didn't want to distress anyone over this quote unquote thing that had just happened to him. You can't you put yourself there in the kid's shoes that this is wrong. But this is a friend, and my parents trust him, and he's my karate coach, so I don't understand why he's doing it.

30:45 This can't be happening like what my parents were talking about. This is different, when in reality it's not. It's exactly what they warned about. Now it turns out they had caught a lot of crawfish and they had enough to boil the next day. And during the next day's events, right there boiling and having a good time, Jeff needed to go make a store run, and Jody jumped in the truck with him like he usually did. Hey, I'll go to a store with you this time, though, Jeff brings up what happened the night before about him touching him, and he says, but you can't tell your parents, Jody, you just can't. And Jody decides, okay, I'm just going to pretend. He pretends he was asleep and tells Jeff he doesn't even know what he's talking about, right, because it's embarrassing. And while this may have been a self preservation method for Jody, like as a child, this feigning of not knowing, you know what happened, although they both clearly know that they both know what happened, this would actually seal the deal. In Jeff's mind. He now knows I have a victim. I have a child who's not gonna tell. And he knows that because he knows Jody knows what happened, and Jody pretends like he doesn't.

32:05 So Jeff was doing what a lot of pedophiles will do, and he was testing the boundaries. He was trying to see what Jody was going to do. And that's common y'all amongst sex offenders, to see if the victim will tell. And unfortunately for Jody, he passed that test in Jeff's eyes, and now it's game one. So Jeff was now, as you can see, a regular fixture in the Plochet home. He had kind of weaseled his way in right and now he's very comfortable with the family and they're very comfortable with him. And not only that, he was trusted, he was a trusted friend of the family. Gary even said he felt sorry for Jeff.

32:47 He would help him out when he needed, he'd be a friend to him because Jeff was often alone and didn't have a lot of family nearby. And you know, Gary continued to invite Jeff over for dinner to hang out with the family, and Jeff would always oblige, even finding time to sneak off to the bathroom while he was there. The problem was that when he would go to the back to the bathroom, it was usually when Jody was bathing. With all the events that were happening in the home and the hustle and bustle of the friends and the family and the good times they were having, it wasn't a glaring absence when he did it, so it was very calculated and it was only for a couple of minutes after all, so people really wouldn't notice this. So Jeff would come into the bathroom when he would realize that Jody was in there, and bathing and would walk in and turn around and lock the door. He would then soap up his hands to get him nice and soapy, and then would masturbait Jodi, a ten year old child who didn't know what to do. He was more shocked and confused, so he didn't fight back. I mean this as an adult after all, and you don't question adults. How many of us, as parents have told kids, do not back talk an adult. Think about it. Put yourself in the child's perspective. You don't argue with an adult. He was a karate instructor, not a scary stranger. So why was this happening? I mean it's hard for Jody to comprehend why. Also, Jeff would never say anything

34:23 when it happened. He would He would also never abuse Jody to completion in the tub. He did it just long enough to see the natural physiological reaction of Jody's body, and then just like nothing ever happened, he would get up, unlock the door, and walk out. Can you imagine the child's confusion. It's something and I think this is important for anybody who loves kids and their own or their family members. It's something that is confusing to a child because they're getting the natural pleasure signals to the brain. Okay, it's a natural phenomenon with the body does but your mind knows that it's wrong.

35:13 So the emotional turmoil that Jody must have been in is nauseating to me. So it's also a great example of why a lot of kids are going to blame themselves in abuse cases, because if it felt good, then I must have enjoyed it, And if I enjoyed it, then I must have participated, or I must have been a part of it, or if I didn't stop it, then I played a role in this somehow. But you know, if their body responds, then why are they mad? You know, it's just I just can't imagine the confusion. And then the shame of having to speak up must be unbearable, you know, like what a horrible headspace to be in. It literally breaks my heart. And I know there's people out there right now and kids out there right now that are going through this and don't know how to deal with it. It's an adult content that a child is having to shoulder. So another karate tournament came about in April of eighty three, and this is when the game went to the next level, and by game, I don't mean karate. This tournament would forever be burned in Jody's mind because this would be the first time that Jeff would perform oral sex on him for the first time. Now, if that isn't horrible enough, what I'm gonna tell you now it's probably gonna send chills up your spine.

36:43 Jody wasn't an idiot, Okay, Jody understood the things that were happening to him. But now Jeff began whispering in Jody's ear what he was planning to do to Jody ahead of time. And this is horrific, and I don't even like to say it, but I want to tell you the truth. This is when Jeff leans over and whispers and Jody's ear while they're driving, I'm gonna suck your dick tonight in the car ride home from the tournament. So now Jody knows what's happening, what's gonna happen, and he's trapped. He doesn't really you know, doesn't really know what to do. And to show you the juvenile mind, if by Jeff whispering that to Jody, he thought he was gonna somehow arouse Jody, he kind of missed the boat because Jody says his thought immediately after that was what why I pee out of that thing? Right? Can you not see the juvenile mind? They're going, what the hell? So as the days of the months passed, the abuse would continue, and Jeff would perform oral sex on Jodi every day for a month, and the more the abuse occurred, the more Jeff would start to confide in Jody. And by most accounts, if you ask people, it's just a weird dynamic that you're going to abuse a kid and then they become your confidant. You're a grown ass man, Jeff. You're twenty four

But by all accounts, Jeff was a good looking man, you know, and not that looks have anything to do with with it, but you know, he didn't have trouble with women. And even though he was a really, really good looking man, Jody would soon find out that Jeff was an even better con man. All right. So when Jeff really got installed as the karate instructor, Jeff started seeing dollar signs when he went working with the kids, because he acted like he really cared about the youth and coaching them and teaching them to be strong kids. But really, as you can tell, he was really trying to get a hold of one of them. But it was also a big money grab for him. So locally here we have a paper called The Advocate, and there's some other papers, but the Morning Advocate newspaper and the State Times even published articles on Jeff and all of his virtues right as a karate instructor. They were even on TV, like he was really making an impact in this community. They were on TV, which by the way, was made to happen by Gary Ploche, Jody's dad, because of his connections at a local TV station where he used to be a cameraman. This got so big they even met and were endorsed by the Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana for some cups that they were trying to sell to raise money. But the problem was that Jeff would just take the money and take the orders from people,

On top of that, now he's got Jody kind of over a barrel here, and now a Jeff is starting to tell Jody, look, I need you to steal your mother checkbook, and I'm going to have you forge her signature so I can cash them. I just need a little cash, right, twenty thirty dollars here and there. And then he would even fuss it Jody and be like, no, your signature is not good enough. Do it again. But then he would take both checks, the one he messed up one and the one that he says was quote unquote good, and he would cash on both. But he was passing little bits of money, so Mom never really noticed it. In the account. It was just twenty bucks here, thirty bucks there. Jeff had also made these things called Tiger rags, and they were for the LSU Tigers and they were pre selling them, and he again took the money from people.

40:37 He made so much money he even bought a van with the proceeds, but he never fulfilled the orders. I mean, a businessman had even given him fifteen thousand dollars worth of orders and he fronted him the fifteen grand and he never got his order. So you don't screw over a businessman with because this dude got mad and he ended up taking Jeff to court for the money back. You're not going to deliver. I want my money back, And so the pressure began to mount on Jeff because he owed a lot of money to a lot of people, and now it was people that were coming after him. So another big karate tournament came around, and Jody was now ready to fight. He had been practicing, and something about all of the practice that stands out to me is typical pedophile behavior, grooming behavior. You've heard me talk about that before in previous episodes. But he would take the kids and you know, put him on the ground. They need to stretch their legs, stretch their arms, you know, stretch, and he would make a point to desensitize to touch, which is a red flag. But he would like, you know, the kids put their legs up, like to stretch them back, and Jeff would come in and like slap their inner hamstrings and go it's tight, loosen it up, stretch, stretch, and would be really touching on the kids a lot so that they became used to it,

42:07 and that would give him more leeway to put his hands on them. Now, Jody, though, really was learning to fight. I'm not gonna say he wasn't. And by the time this tournament came around, Jody was holding in a whole lot of pent up anger, and you can't blame him. And when he went to this tournament, he unleashed a can of whoop ass backed by that anger on his opponents, and he did so well. A matter of fact, he actually took first place in this tournament. When he went he would did great. And the thing here was that when they were done with the tournament, Jeff was supposed to drop Jody off at his parents house after the tournament ended, and he did, but not without first kissing Jody by on the lips. The problem here, well, first of all, is you don't kiss someone else's side on the lips. But it turns out Jody's uncle happened to be right there, and Jeff didn't see him, but uncle saw Jeff. And when when Jody saw Jody's uncle saw this happen to him, he was shocked, first of all, but very alarmed.

43:27 And the uncle immediately went went inside and was like, yo, we gotta talk. I just saw Jeff kiss Jody on the lips, Like what is going on? I mean, he was so upset that he even made a point to look them in the face and say, a grown man has no business kissing a boy on the mouth, Like it's just that. Ain't that. Ain't cool, it's not how it goes. But being a very good manipulator like Jeff was, he had an out because unfortunately, as far as time goes, Jody's parents actually ignored the warning. But I want to. I want to. It's not because they're stupid. It's not a promise.

44:08 Listen, what happened. It just so happened that an incident had happened just the night before involving Jeff. Okay, it turns out, okay, you know, I do this like if my nephew were somebody like, I'll give him a little pop on. We call it a fwap, fwap a flap, right, you fwap somebody on the back of the head or you pop them. Say quit that, right, you're not hurting somebody. You just give them a little little love tap to change direction and what you're doing. And it turns out Jeff had popped that uncle's kid on the head, just like he did all the other kids when they were being knuckleheads, right, and said boy, and he popped him at the kid in the head. But the kid got mad about it. He didn't like that he got popped in the head. Whether he's embarrassed or whatever, and he went and he told his dad about it, which was the uncle. The uncle that saw Jeff the next day kissed Jody on the lips, and when the kid I told Jody's uncle, uncle bowed up on Jeff and it turned into a big fiasco and he was threatened to whip Jeff's ass. So the next day, whenever the uncle was accusing Jeff of kissing Jody on the lips, the parents were just like, why, I don't know about that. He's never done that before. And they really thought he was just trying to get back at Jeff, right, to get Jeff in some kind of trouble because he was so loved by the family and he had slapped his kid. It, as far as manipulation goes, what a way to what a way to disarm a family, right, and to perfectly use manipulation tactics there to be like,

45:39 WHOA, you know, I didn't I didn't do that. He's just mad at me as a yesterday and he's coming off with some bs about me. I can so see it playing out. I can so see that happened him. So a couple of red flags here to point out to this point. First of all, Jeff Kemp came in as a quote unquote savior, right he was taking the place of the other instructor, and he came in to save the day. Number Two, he made it very convenient for him to always be around the children. He moved the karate place closer to the Ploche family and conveniently started making the practices really long, which made it difficult for the parents to get there to pick the kids up, and he would give him the ride home. Number Three, you know, disassociation or not disassociation, but desensitization to touch, because he would be always rubbing on the kid's legs and stretching them out and you know, making them used to being touched by him. Number four, putting kids in their laps. I don't allow my children to sit in strangers laps. I've seen too much, you know, putting them in his lap and then him being able to rub his hands quote unquote on accident. He's testing boundaries. He's trying to see what they're comfortable with and what they're not. And then he's doing the kind of smoking me because they're getting to drive the car. And it's easily explained away to a parent if the kid goes he touched me, well, baby, you run his lab Well, he was trying. He was trying to shift.

Five four, became very close to the family, built trust with the family right, established that friendship, made himself integral to the family to where now when other people start kind of wondering what's going on here, it can be pooh pooed off like that, ain't he didn't do that. He wouldn't do that. Explanation after explanation. And by the way, something that's not necessarily really mentioned in the book, but I know firsthand, is that at the karate place, he would have Jody be stretching and then say run to the restroom, and then he would tell the kids, all right, I want so and so to be the leader, and I want you to finish stretching him out. And while those kids were practicing their moods and stretching and all of that, he was hidden in plain sight because he would go in the bathroom and be messing with Jody in the bathroom while the other kids were there were there. Pedophiles have a way it is not the creepy guy jumping out of the bushes going boo. Okay, it's usually someone very close to you, a friend, a family member, that uncle that likes to tickle, that uncle that likes to put you on the lap. Sex offenders do tend to be male, but not all of them are. Be vigilant, be careful with your prize, possessions, your children, because it's this easy. And these were parents that taught about good touch bad touch. These
